- Figuring out if someone has blocked you on Snapchat can be confusing, but there are some telltale signs to find out if you've been blocked.
- Recent chats disappearing, profile details not being visible, and being unable to find the user's profile in search are just some of the methods.
- It is always recommended that you log out of your account and then sign in again if you are suspicious of being blocked on Snapchat.
While Snapchat is a great way to keep in touch with friends, there are times when conversations can get heated leading to the other person blocking you. Since Snapchat does not inform you if you have been blocked, it can be confusing to learn why you aren’t able to reach the other person anymore. So to help you out, we have mentioned simple ways that you can try out to check whether someone on Snapchat has blocked you.
When you get blocked by someone, it is quite evident at a glance that the contact has blocked you. However, if you are still suspicious regarding the same then you can consider going through the signs that we have discussed below.
Note: We would recommend that you log out of the Snapchat app and then log back into your account before proceeding further with any of the methods we have mentioned below. We were only able to see some of the changes after logging out and logging back in.
Method 1: Check Your Recent Chats
When you get blocked by a user on Snapchat, your ongoing chat with them should disappear from the chat list. To verify this, open the Snapchat app, go to the Chats tab, and check your recent chats. If the user has blocked you then your conversation with them should not be visible anymore.
Although, in certain instances, the chat will remain visible even if they have blocked you due to some bug with the app. In such cases, you should take a look at the rest of the methods.
Method 2: Old Delivered Texts Appear Opened
If the conversation does not disappear for you, the messages you send will be marked as delivered. Delivered indicates that the other user has received your text but has not seen it. When they open your chat, the message on your end should say Opened. However, due to a bug, texts sent to a blocked user appear “Opened” when you log back into your account. To test this, use these steps:
- Send a text to a user whom you suspect has blocked you. It should be marked delivered.
- Now, tap on your profile icon in the top left corner.
- On your profile page, tap the gear icon.
- Scroll down to the bottom. Here, tap on Log Out.
- Select Log Out again in the confirmation box.
- After logging out, tap on the Log In button to sign into your account again.
- Check whether the delivered text now shows as Opened instantly after logging in.
If that is the case then it could be very likely that you have been blocked by the other user. You should also look out for their Avatar in the chat window. If they did open your text then the Avatar should be visible but if you are blocked then you won’t be able to see it.
Method 3: Profile Details Disappeared
If you have been blocked by someone, their profile details should not be visible to you any longer. By profile details, we mean stuff like their Snap score, Horoscope sign, Stories, and public profile. To check this, follow these steps.
- Go to the Chat tab and open the conversation with the individual.
- Tap on their profile icon or name in the top left.
- Look for their info on the profile page.
Here, you should only be able to view their Avatar along with an + Add button. It might indicate that they have removed you as a friend but tapping on the Add button won’t send them a request confirming that you have been blocked.
Method 4: Cannot Find Them in My Friends List
Once you get blocked by an account on Snapchat, they will automatically get removed as your friend. As a result, when you go searching for their account in the My Friends list, you won’t be able to find them. Here are the steps to search for the suspected account in your friends list.
- Open Snapchat and tap on your profile icon in the top left corner.
- Scroll down to My Friends and tap on it.
- Using the search bar at the top, look for their account or Snapchat username.
If you can’t find them then the user may have blocked you. But it also might be possible that they have removed you as a friend from their end. So just try the rest of the methods to confirm your suspicion.
Method 5: Search their Username on the App
We recommend that you also try searching for their name or Snapchat username on the Stories or Camera tab search bar. See if they have only removed you as a friend, then their account should still be visible to you. Their account won’t appear whatsoever in case you have been blocked.
To search for them, just open the app, tap on the search icon in the top left, and type their name to see if it appears in the search results.
Method 6: Search Using a Different Account
An extension to the above discussed method would be to use a different account. As one might make a case that the user might have deleted their account. . To confirm, this, you can try searching for their username using a different account other than yours. Like a friend’s ID or an alternative ID of yours. If you can find the user in search or My Friends list on your friends account then it will be enough to confirm that you have been blocked.
These are some of the methods that you can try for yourself to check whether you got blocked on Snapchat or not. Snapchat does not make it easy for you to learn if you have been blocked as the app itself bugs out for some reason and in certain instances like the one we encountered, you might still be able to view all the details of the blocked individual. That is the reason why we recommend that you log out and then re-login before trying any of the methods above. Do let us know if you found any of them useful in your situation.
No. Snapchat won’t show you any alert or notification to let you know that the user has blocked your account. This might have been done due to privacy and security reasons.
When you account gets blocked, typically the conversation between you two should disappear, you should not be able to look up their username or view their Snapscore, Horoscope sign, other details.
This seems to be a bug as several users have noted that at times, Snapchat won’t just outright hide chats and other details of the individual who blocked you. Thus, making it difficult to identify if you have been blocked. To fix this bugs, log out and log into your account.
