There are times when your Snapchat friendships can turn sour, leading to the other person blocking you. But since the app doesn’t notify you, how do you find out whether you’ve been blocked or just being ignored? Well, there are some tell-tale signs you can look for, and if you need help, then keep reading to learn how to know if someone blocked you on Snapchat.
How to Know If Someone Blocked You on Snapchat
When you get blocked by someone on Snapchat, it is evident at a glance that the contact has blocked you. However, if you are still suspicious regarding the same, then you can consider going through the signs that we have discussed below.
Note: We would recommend that you log out of the Snapchat app and then log back into your account before proceeding further with any of the methods we have mentioned below. We were only able to see some of the changes after logging out and logging back in.
Method 1: Find Your Recent Chats with Them on Snapchat
The first thing to check if you suspect someone has blocked you on Snapchat is your chat with them. Once blocked, their chat automatically goes away, so you won’t be able to access it, nor watch your saved Snaps in the chat.
To verify this, simply check your recent chats or look up their name using the search icon above. If nothing shows up, it is quite likely that they have blocked you. However, in some instances, the chat continues to appear due to a bug. In that instance, I recommend you check out other methods.
Method 2: Check the Status of Shared Snaps to Know If Someone Blocked You
If their chat still shows up for you, and you keep hopelessly sending them snaps and texts, then at least make sure they are “Opened”. When your friend watches your Snap, they will have to reflect the “Opened” status next to them. However, if they only appear as delivered, then you could be blocked.
- To test this, send a text to the person you suspect has blocked you.
- Wait for a few days to see if the status changes to Opened.
- If it remains the same, then it is very likely that the worst has come true.

Method 3: Check Their Snapchat Profile Details
Once blocked, your friend’s Snapchat profile shouldn’t be visible anymore. But if their chat still shows for you, then you can jump into the profile page and check if it is the same as it was, or if all the details have gone missing. By details, we mean their Snap score, Horoscope sign, and birthday.
- To check this, head to the Chat tab and open their conversation.
- Tap on their profile icon or name at the top left.
- Look for their info on their profile screen.
If you only see their Avatar along with an + Add button, then it means they removed you as a friend.
Method 4: Look Up Their Name in Snapchat My Friends List
You can also cross-check your My Friends list, where all your Snapchat buddies show up. Except for those who have blocked you, of course. But it is a good way to determine your status of friendship with them on the app. Here’s how you can look into your Snapchat friend’s list.
- On Snapchat, tap on your profile icon in the top left corner.
- Scroll down to My Friends and tap on it.
- Using the search bar, look for their account or Snapchat username.
If you can’t find their account, then it is best to say you need to move on. It could be possible that they have only removed you as a friend. So, try the rest of the methods to confirm your suspicion.
Method 5: Search their Username on Snapchat to Tell If Someone Blocked You
If you’re still not convinced, then you can try looking up their Snapchat profile. Let’s say they only removed you as a friend; then their account should still show up for you. However, if you were blocked by someone, then their account appears no matter what.
- To search for them, open Snapchat.
- Now go to the Stories screen by tapping on People tab from the bottom toolbar.
- Tap on the search icon at the top left, and type their name to see if it appears in the results.
Method 6: Search Someone’s Profile Using a Different Account
Your last resort is using a different profile altogether. Either you can use an alt account or your friend’s Snapchat profile. Then, try looking up the same Snapchat user just like we did in the fifth method and see if their name comes up. If it does, then it confirms for good that they blocked you.
These are some of the methods that you can try to check if someone blocked you on Snapchat. The app does not make it easy for you to learn if you have been blocked, as it can bug out by showing you the blocked chat. That is the reason why we recommend that you log out and then re-login before trying any of the methods above. Do let us know if you found any of them useful in your situation.
No. Snapchat won’t show you any alert or notification to let you know that the user has blocked your account. This might have been done due to privacy and security reasons.
When your account gets blocked, typically the conversation between you two should disappear, you should not be able to look up their username or view their Snapscore, Horoscope sign, other details.
This seems to be a bug as several users have noted that at times, Snapchat won’t just outright hide chats and other details of the individual who blocked you. Thus, making it difficult to identify if you have been blocked. To fix this bugs, log out and log into your account.
