Snapchat Now Lets You Edit Messages in Chat; Here’s How

Edit message feature coming to Snapchat
In Short
  • Snapchat has announced a new edit message feature that is coming to the app soon.
  • It will allow users to edit a sent chat within 5 minutes of sending it or before anyone replies to it.
  • The feature is yet to arrive and will be available for Snapchat+ members first on the platform.

We have all been in a situation where we have sent typos or an embarrassing text to someone. Even times, when we get our emotions, get the best of us, and we end up leaving a paragraph-long text. Well, the platform is giving you a chance to fix it the next time it happens with its upcoming edit sent messages feature coming to Snapchat.

How to Edit Chats on Snapchat

Snapchat announced several new features coming to the platform on Wednesday. One of the highlights is the message editing option. When the feature arrives, here is how you will be able to edit messages in the app.

  1. To use it, long press the chat you want to fix.
  2. Then tap on the new Edit Chat option.
  3. Then you can go ahead and correct the typo or mistake, as you can see in the GIF below.

However, there is a catch. You can only use the edit chat feature as long as your friend has not replied to it. You also have only 5 minutes before the option disappears. One thing to notice here is that it does not show an “Edited” tag like it does on WhatsApp and Instagram. This means the person on the other end won’t know that you changed the original text.

Along with editable chats, Snapchat also announced other interesting additions. Like the option to set reminders using My AI chatbot, Emoji reactions, Snap Map reactions, and custom clothes for Bitmoji using AI prompts. Some of these are already available right now like My AI reminders and emoji reactions. Other features including message editing will be available soon for Snapchat+ users only.

The message editing feature is something that users have been requesting for a while now. So the fact that it is finally making its way on the app is good news for many. I can’t help but notice that the app added this feature, just months after Instagram introduced the edit message option for its DMs. So it could be a way to take on the app as both social media platforms target young users. Whatever the case may be, it is a win-win situation for the users.
