If there’s one game sitting at the top of everyone’s wishlist, it’s GTA 6. Rockstar’s upcoming release is arguably the most anticipated game of the past few decades, with fans anxious as ever for even a crumb of new information about the title. But with Rockstar being Rockstar, the studio hasn’t released a single new frame from the latest Grand Theft Auto since May 2025.
Despite it being poised to launch this year, even its pre-orders aren’t live yet. Given all the hype around the game, fans are naturally starting to wonder when they’ll be able to secure their copies. And if you’ve got the same concerns, here’s everything to know about GTA 6 pre-orders and its potential pricing.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Details Speculation
GTA 6 pre-orders haven’t gone live just yet, but they will likely start after the release of trailer 3. Our prediction is based on the pre-order window for Red Dead Redemption 2, which was lifted just a month after the game got its third trailer. Rockstar will almost certainly stick to a similar schedule, as delaying it any further could lead to intense backlash from the community.
It felt like the announcement of GTA 6 pre-orders was imminent last October when the game’s PlayStation store page received a mysterious update that added a section for editions. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a general store-wide update and had nothing to do with the game specifically.
Whenever pre-orders end up going live, you can expect outages across both the PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts due to the sheer number of people looking to buy the game simultaneously. For the time being, you can wishlist the game on both platforms.
As for editions, Rockstar typically unveils three editions for its games (such as GTA 5), and that tradition is likely to continue with GTA 6. The options players will be able to pick between include Standard, Special, and the Collector’s Edition.
The Standard or Base edition will feature a copy of the game and some pre-order bonuses, while the Special edition will come with some nifty digital and physical items (maps, blueprints, etc). Finally, the Collector’s edition will come with a real-life prop of an in-game item, or maybe even a figurine featuring the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Release Date Speculation
We predict that GTA 6 pre-orders will go live sometime in May 2026. There are two main factors anchoring our prediction, the first of which is the potential release date for trailer 3. During the promotional cycles of both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, the third trailers were released during the six months leading up to their launch. In the latter’s case, this was quickly followed up by the start of pre-orders, which will likely be the case with GTA 6 as well.
Secondly, May 2026 is the perfect time to open pre-orders as far as optics are concerned. It marks the one-year anniversary of trailer 2, with May 26 also being the initial release date of the title. This gives Rockstar a chance to both commemorate the anniversary and extend an olive branch to a fanbase rapidly losing patience.
GTA 6 Speculated Price
The question of how much GTA 6 will cost has gathered a fair amount of attention in gaming circles the world over. Naturally, we’ve given it plenty of thought as well, and we predict that the base GTA 6 price will be $80.
If true, this represents a small increase from the standard $70 price tag most publishers employ. At the same time, the $80 price is also something that the gaming industry is eager to standardize. We’ve already seen this pricing convention in action when Nintendo released Mario Kart World last year. We also saw what happens when this pricing backfires, with the best examples being The Outer Worlds 2 and Take-Two’s own Borderlands 4.
In GTA 6’s case, most fans will find the slight markup reasonable, mainly due to the scope and quality of Rockstar’s games. If the publisher decides to tread beyond that figure, however, they could potentially embroil themselves in controversy, while also raising the already impossible expectations placed on GTA 6.
Given all that, we can safely assume that the GTA 6 price will be far more reasonable than the $100+ figures that have been quoted by some ‘insiders’ online. Of course, we’ll be sure to update this section once new details are revealed.
And that wraps up everything we know so far about the GTA 6 pre-orders and how much the game will cost. When do you think pre-orders for the game will open? Let us know in the comments.
GTA 6 pre-orders will likely start in Q2 2026, or sometime in May 2026 to be more specific.
The GTA 6 standard edition will likely be priced at $80.
