Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed the “non-financial” reason why GTA 6’s Extended Look is premiering on Netflix first.

Zelnick shed light on the decision in a YouTube interview with Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier on August 7, 2026, while discussing the upcoming extended look.

The Take-Two boss said GTA 6‘s Extended Showcase on August 27 will “feel like watching a Netflix show” when asked about the partnership with Netflix beyond the usual financial incentives. Zelnick further stated, “There’s reasoning behind this. I think when the title is launched on Netflix, if you watch it, you’ll understand more.”

This implies that GTA 6’s next trailer will be cinematic. Although the Take-Two CEO hasn’t confirmed whether it will be a gameplay showcase or GTA 6 trailer 3, his comment all but confirms that it will be pretty meaty.

Most people think this is to sell more subscriptions, as the Take-Two CEO urged everyone to get a Netflix subscription ahead of August 27 in a recent interview with IGN. However, their marketing is clearly working because GTA 6 pre-orders reach astronomical sales numbers, as revealed in Take-Two’s August 7 earnings call.

Sure, some players have also faced ridicule for subscribing to Netflix just to watch GTA 6’s Extended Look early, but you can’t deny the anticipation surrounding it. Chances are, some fans will publish the Extended Look through “unofficial channels” shortly after it airs on Netflix ahead of its YouTube launch 6 hours later.
