  • Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says GTA 6's Extended Look will "feel like watching a Netflix movie."
  • This implies that the upcoming Extended Showcase won't be a conventional GTA 6 gameplay trailer.
  • As per Zelnick, this is the "non-financial" reason behind the partnership between Rockstar and Netflix.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed the “non-financial” reason why GTA 6’s Extended Look is premiering on Netflix first.

Zelnick shed light on the decision in a YouTube interview with Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier on August 7, 2026, while discussing the upcoming extended look.

The Take-Two boss said GTA 6‘s Extended Showcase on August 27 will “feel like watching a Netflix show” when asked about the partnership with Netflix beyond the usual financial incentives. Zelnick further stated, “There’s reasoning behind this. I think when the title is launched on Netflix, if you watch it, you’ll understand more.”

This implies that GTA 6’s next trailer will be cinematic. Although the Take-Two CEO hasn’t confirmed whether it will be a gameplay showcase or GTA 6 trailer 3, his comment all but confirms that it will be pretty meaty.

In addition, Zelnick commented on Rockstar’s marketing push for GTA 6 leading up to its release in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, saying that August 27 is merely “one of the hors d’oeuvres” for the marketing campaign. “There’s appetizers, main course and dessert to follow.” So, Take-Two is clearly sticking to GTA 6’s November 19, 2026, release.

Most people think this is to sell more subscriptions, as the Take-Two CEO urged everyone to get a Netflix subscription ahead of August 27 in a recent interview with IGN. However, their marketing is clearly working since GTA 6 pre-orders have reached astronomical sales numbers, as revealed on Take-Two’s August 7 earnings call.

Sure, some players have also faced ridicule for subscribing to Netflix just to watch GTA 6’s Extended Look early, but you can’t deny the anticipation surrounding it. Chances are, some fans will publish the Extended Look through “unofficial channels” shortly after it airs on Netflix ahead of its YouTube launch 6 hours later.

Whatever the case, the fact that GTA 6’s Extended Look will feel like a Netflix show suggests it won’t be a conventional gameplay trailer or just another numbered trailer. Rather, it will give us a closer and completely unexpected look at what players will experience when GTA 6 launches later this year.
