The 39.40 update not only brings an end to the Fortnite South Park collaboration but also brings in a new wave of crossovers and the new Love and Legends event to Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1. Here’s everything we know so far that’s coming with the Fortnite 39.40 update.
Fortnite Update 39.40 Downtime Details
The 39.40 update in Fortnite is now live after a scheduled downtime of 1-2 hours on February 5, 2026, at 4 AM ET. The Fortnite servers were taken down for maintenance, with matchmaking services and all playlists being disabled during update downtime. However, the servers are now back up, allowing players to load into matches.
Fortnite Love and Legends Update Today Full Patch Notes for 39.40
The 39.40 update is much bigger in scale than the previous Fortnite 39.30 update, which mainly aimed at maintenance and cosmetic additions. Here’s everything that players can expect from the Fortnite 39.40 update:
Fortnite Love and Legends Event (Valentine’s Day)

The star of the 39.40 update is the 2026 Fortnite Valentine’s Day event, titled Love and Legends. Epic Games has revealed that this event will run for the entirety of February, while also providing an entire roadmap for everything players can expect throughout the event. Here is all the new content the roadmap tells us:

K-Pop Demon Hunters Wave 2: Jinu and New HUNTR/X Golden Skins

It seems like the Fortnite 39.40 update is the patch for returning collaborations, as Epic Games has officially announced Wave 2 of the Fortnite K-Pop Demon Hunters collaboration. This new wave not only brings new Golden skins for the HUNTR/X trio but also a skin for Jinu, one of the antagonists from the hit Netflix movie. The Jinu skin will go live in the Fortnite Item Shop on February 6, 2026, alongside other cosmetics like the Sussie back bling. Here are all the skins featured in this Wave 2:
- Jinu skin
- Golden Mira skin
- Golden Rumi skin
- Golden Zoey skin
Additionally, players will be happy to know that Epic is organizing a K-Pop Demon Hunters Solo Cup, allowing players to compete in a Ranked tournament to get a chance at acquiring the Jinu skin for free. But the second wave of this collaboration doesn’t end here, as Epic is also going to unvault the K-Pop Demon Hunters Mythics soon, adding them to the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 loot pool.
New Fortnite Festival Artist: Chappell Roan

The Fortnite 39.40 update also brings the Midwest Princess herself, Chappell Roan, to the Fortnite Island. The artist is slated to be the headliner for the next Fortnite Festival season, replacing Lisa. Chappell Roan will receive two distinct outfits, including the Roan of Arc skin inspired by her iconic Medieval Knight Armor look from the 2024 VMAs and a “Pink Pony” inspired look featuring a cowboy hat.
Players can also expect to see a bunch of Chappell Roan-themed items in the Fortnite Festival Season 13 Music Pass. Here are some of the cosmetics featured in this collaboration:
- Chappell Roan skin (Festival Pass)
- Roan of Arc skin (Item Shop)
- Pink Pony Star back bling
- Pink Pony Club & traversal Femininomenon Emotes
- Pink Pony Sidekick
- Sword Pickaxe
- Subway Serenader Mic
- Midwest Princess Keytar
- Drumset Supernova
- Pink Pony Club Jam Track
New Rift Encounter: Friendship Bubbles

Even though the Delulu mode has been removed from Fortnite, it looks like Epic is bringing the Friendship Bubble from the social mode into Battle Royale as a Rift Anomaly. The Bubbles will spawn in as a Rift Anomaly, making multiple safe zones around the Chapter 7 map.
For those who don’t know, the Friend Zone Bubble is an Exotic variant of the Shield Bubble, and essentially creates an impenetrable barrier for 30s while also providing a low gravity effect to players who enter it.
New Weapon: Lock-On Assault Rifle

The 39.40 update has also added the much-anticipated Lock-On Assault Rifle to the Chapter 7 Season 1 loot pool. This new weapon will work similarly to the Lock-On Pistol added to the game, allowing players to lock onto and track their enemies.
New Item: Flowberry Mist Grenade

In addition to the Lock-On Assault Rifle, Epic has also added the new Flowberry Mist item to Fortnite. As of now, the item is slated to release later in the Love and Legends event. However, we do know that the Flowberry Mist will function similarly to the Med Mist Grenade, allowing players to obscure their location while gaining shiels and a low-gravity effect.
Return of The Seven

Probably the biggest highlight for storyline fans is the confirmation of the return of The Seven, as hinted at by the Fortnite Love and Legends roadmap. The Seven’s return has been highly anticipated for over 3 years now, and players will be happy to know that Epic has not forgotten about these beloved characters.
Epic will soon add story quests related to The Seven, tasking Loopers with helping her escape from the Dark Voyager’s cell. Here are all of the quests we know of so far, along with the rewards they offer:
- Ask The Order to free her from her cell (1) – 15,000 XP
- Hit Bigfoot or Human Bill to tag them for Carina’s favor (1) – 15,000 XP
- Collect Bars to trade for Carina’s keycard (300) – 15,000 XP
- Power down The Order’s cell to free her (1) – 15,000 XP
- Ask the Order how to defeat Dark Voyager (1) – 15,000 XP
- Damage opponents at the Clawsy Lodge, Sandy Strip, or Humble Hills to clear transmitter sites (250) – 15,000 XP
- Destroy Metal objects to collect transmitter parts (10) – 15,000 XP
- Assemble the transmitter near the Battlewood Sign (1) – 15,000 XP
New Boss Kit: Bigfoot
Adding to the gameplay changes in the Fortnite 39.40 update, Epic has also added Bigfoot as a new boss on the Island. Players can find Bigfoot at one of his spawn locations and take him on to acquire his kit, which includes the ability to become Bigfoot himself. Here is everything you can get by defeating Bigfoot:
- Bigfoot’s Flex SMG: A more powerful version of the Flex SMG.
- Bigfoot Playable Boss Kit: Bigfoot’s beastly instinct, which gives players increased stamina, vitality, and enemy tracking.
Upcoming Weapon: Charge Laser Cannon

In the release trailer for the Love and Legends update, Epic Games has also featured a short glimpse of the upcoming Charge Laser Cannon weapon. The cannon seems to be an extremely powerful weapon, taking inspiration from the Zapotron. This new weapon could be tied to the Dark Voyager, as it resembles the powerful blasts from the Dark Harvester Cube Cradle.
New Fortnite Live Event Hints

The 39.40 update has also added files for a new Fortnite live event under the name ‘RudeLemon’. The information was brought forward by leaker Wensoing, and it could tie into the new story quests added with the update. The live event could see returning members of The Seven helping Jones and Hope take down the Dark Voyager. However, as of now, this is based on speculation and not confirmed by Epic Games.
Marvel Rivals Wave 2

Epic Games is going all out for gaming collabs this year, with leaks from ShiinaBR suggesting that the 39.40 update will bring another wave of the Fortnite Marvel Rivals collaboration. This new wave is set to feature Luna Snow and Magik, with both skins sporting their iconic looks from the beloved hero shooter instead of their comic book outfits. Players can expect to see a possible Jam Track for one of Luna Snow’s songs and Magik’s Soulsword as a back bling, pickaxe, or maybe both.
Fortnite x Honkai Star Rail Collab

The Trailblazers are making their way to the Fortnite Island with the 39.40 update. Epic released a cryptic teaser featuring two distinct swords belonging to Kafka and Blade, two beloved Honkai Star Rail characters, confirming their arrival in the Fortnite Honkai Star Rail collab. Players can expect to see Kafka wielding her signature purple katana as a pickaxe and a built-in emote inspired by her “Spirit Whisper ability.” Meanwhile, Blade is expected to wield his Fragmented Sword as a pickaxe, with a potential reactive style.
Additionally, there is also the possibility that Kafka and Blade’s swords will be added to Fortnite as Mythic weapons. Epic might end up relegating these new Mythic weapons to the Blitz Royale mode, just like the Fortnite Bleach collaboration.
The Dark Harvester Begins Its Assault

It looks like the Dark Voyager is preparing an all-out assault on the Fortnite Island’s inhabitants. As of the 39.40 update, the Dark Voyager’s Cube Cradle, now titled the Dark Harvester, will start shooting powerful blasts of energy at players during a match. Players must be careful when they are close to the Harvester, as the blast doesn’t just damage you but also pushes you back.
Map Changes: Wonkeeland Returns
With the end of the South Park collaboration, Epic has removed the Cartmanland POI and brought the Wonkeeland POI back in all its glory. Additionally, players will now be able to find trucks and other vehicles that look like they are carrying construction equipment around the Island, possibly adding to the previously mentioned Fortnite live event.
New Fortnite Discover Tiles

With the release of the 39.40 update, Epic Games will also be making changes to the current Fortnite Discover menu in an effort to streamline the tiles and manage some of the clutter. Now, all variants of the Battle Royale, Reload, and OG modes will be grouped together under one single tile for each mode. This means you simply have to select the parent tile like Battle Royale, and you can then choose between normal Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Ranked or Unranked playlists.
Weapon Balance Changes
Epic Games released a hotfix to prepare players for the Fortnite 39.40 update, buffing multiple weapons across the board and evening out the loot pool’s balance. Here are all the weapon balance changes for the Fortnite 39.40 update:
| Item | Buffs |

Additionally, the Fortnite South Park skins will also leave the Item Shop with this update.
