Dying Light: The Beast, a new standalone entry in Techland’s zombie-survival franchise, received a fresh trailer during the Summer Games Fest 2025 show. Initially revealed during last year’s Gamescom, the game was originally planned as an expansion to Dying Light 2 before expanding into its own thing. The title has strong spin-off energy and aims to address various demands from fans, including the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first game.

Visually, The Beast looks closer to Harran than Villedor, a change that a majority of fans will welcome with open arms. Besides this, the title will feature gunplay from the jump, a mechanic surprisingly omitted from Dying Light 2 at launch. The trailer showed off the arsenal of weapons at Crane’s disposal, ranging from rapid assault rifles to scorching flamethrowers.

Of course, melee weapons of all shapes and sizes remain a core focus, so you’ll still be caving heads in using a bat and slicing zombies into a bloodied mess. In addition to this, the game will also come with functional vehicles, allowing you to mow down zombies from the comfort of a driver’s seat.

As for The Beast’s story, its events introduce us to a vengeful version of Kyle Crane, who’s on the hunt for the Baron after enduring 13 years of experimentation. The incessant testing has infused the character with beast-like powers, allowing him to tap into an uncapped rage that significantly buffs his powers and lets him throw hands against the mightiest of mutated creatures. All these gameplay elements, coupled with the franchise’s signature parkour, should make for the most enjoyable Dying Light yet.

We’ll find out if that’s the case when the game arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on August 22. Until then, let us know your impressions of the new trailer in the comments below.
