Minecraft Chaos Cubed Release Date (Speculated)
The Minecraft Chaos Cubed update is expected to be released around mid-June 2026. This means it will arrive three months after the Minecraft 26.1 update, which was released on March 24, 2026.
Why so? Minecraft’s release cycle now follows a quarterly cadence. Game developer Mojang shifted away from its once-a-year update cycle to releasing smaller drops throughout the year. This was first put into action with the Armored Paws update in 2023, and we’ve been getting smaller update drops ever since.
What is the Minecraft 26.2 Update Name?
Unlike previous announcements, Mojang revealed the update name at Minecraft Live 2026. The official name for the Minecraft 26.2 drop is confirmed to be Minecraft Chaos Cubed.
This name is apt for the update, since a new cave biome will be introduced in the next update, and the highlight of this biome is a new Sulphur Cube mob. This mob can create chaos everywhere it goes, so keep your eyes peeled for new snapshots to test these features.
All New Minecraft Chaos Cubed Features
The Chaos Cubed update in Minecraft is introducing some truly unique additions that could change how players interact with the world. Here are the major features that have been revealed so far at Minecraft Live 2026.
Sulfur Caves Biome
One of the biggest highlights of the Chaos Cubed update is the introduction of a new biome called Sulfur Caves. These caves will contain noxious pools that can cause players who walk into them to experience a strange, dizzying effect. When players get too close to these pools while exploring the sulfur caves, it can be risky but worth a try.

Inside the cave biome, you will find a couple of new blocks called Sulfur and Cinnabar. These blocks give the caves their special red and yellow colors. Moreover, you will also notice a 3D fading effect while exploring these caves because of their warm tones.
Sulfur Cube Mob
Minecraft Chaos Cubed also brings one of the most creative Minecraft mobs ever in the game, and it’s called Sulfur Cube. This one looks similar to the slime chunks in the swamp biomes and magma blocks in the Nether. However, unlike those, the Sulfur Cube mob can eat blocks that directly affect its behavior and movement.

When you drop any block near the Sulfur Cube mob, it can absorb that block and take up the block’s characteristics. For instance, if a Sulfur Cube absorbs a wood block, it behaves like a bouncing cube, whereas if it absorbs ice, the Cube slides around like butter.
This mechanic grants the Minecraft Sulfur Cube archetypes and opens up a world of possibilities for Minecraft players and map designers. You can think of creating Minecraft parkour maps using this mob, or minigames like pinball and Curling, and many more.
New Sulfur and Cinnabar Blocks
Beyond the biome itself, the Minecraft Chaos Cubed update expands the building blocks palette by introducing two completely new block families — the Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks. Both have a complete building set, including the stairs, slabs, and walls, along with their polished and chiseled variants.

The Cinnabar blocks bring a deep red aesthetic, while the Sulfur blocks offer a warm yellow color. This update becomes valuable for the crafters and builders who want to try out some of the best Minecraft house ideas in their world. Among these, the Potent Sulfur block stands out more than just a decorative block since they generate toxic gas after interacting with water in sulfur pools and sulfur springs.
Sulfur Spikes
Adding to the Sulfur Cave biome’s identity, new Sulfur Spikes are introduced that can generate as stalactites or stalagmites. At first glance, they might seem to resemble the Minecraft dripstones; however, they behave quite differently.

Unlike the dripstones, the Sulfur Spikes do not increase damage based on fall distance, and they do not drop liquids. You may encounter the Sulfur Spikes near the Sulfur Springs underground, and they can be harvested as well. You can later use them to craft Sulfur blocks in Minecraft.
Geysers
Another fun environmental feature coming up in the Minecraft Chaos Cubed update is the addition of Geysers. It seems perfect for some chaotic players to build clever contraptions and sometimes even add a touch of humor to the builds as well.

In Minecraft, Geysers can now be created when Potent Sulfur blocks are placed in a Sulfur Pool above a Magma block and at a depth of 1-4 blocks (water). Then, at a random tick, the geyser can erupt, spurting white fumes into the air. However, if you want the geyser to erupt continuously, consider replacing the Magma block with a lava source block.
You can further adjust the height of the gas by increasing the depth of the Potent Sulfur block. It can be a playful mechanic since the gas column can launch any entities above it into the air as well.
‘Bounce’ Music Disc
A brand-new Minecraft music disc, called Bounce, is coming in the next drop. The soundtrack is composed by Finger Spit, and there’s a unique way of obtaining it. You have to find a Mineshaft that generates right inside a Sulfur Cave area. And then you would find the music disc inside one of the chests of that mineshaft.

Friends List
The Minecraft Chaos Cubed update will finally add a built-in friends list for the Java version that has been available in the Bedrock edition for a long time. So, when you download and play Minecraft versions above the 26.2 Snapshot 7, you’ll be able to see a small friends icon on the title screen as well as the pause menu.

From here, you can send and accept friend requests by using the Minecraft profile name. Once done, enter your world and invite friends to your single-player server. Yes, due to the peer-to-peer support being available on Java, you can now play Minecraft with your friends on the same single-player world.
Those are all new features you should know about in the upcoming Minecraft Chaos Cubed update. So, are you looking forward to the new update? Let us know in the comments below.
The Minecraft 26.2 update is officially named Chaos Cubed because of the addition of the new Sulfur Cube mob and the chaotic, fun movement it brings.
