“20 levels mean a lot of play time”

Are we talking about the same WoW?

Bilzzard messed around with leveling speed. 20 levels is a few hours, not “a lot of play time”.

  • Arch says:

I’ve played a few of these, but IMO, Rift is the hands-down winner. Endless amounts of complexity and detail keep it interesting.

  • Meowmix says:

    Best –

    GW2 – Wow Tie
Rift (I’m surprised it was so low – that was considered to be a wow killer when it first came out lol and it was very popular and ads everywhere)
    Ddo
    Lotr
    Elder scrolls online

  • TheMoaner says:

What i do know is the old days of $16.00 for six months subscription or $5.00 for a zillion in-game credits is well over and gone. Games cost rl cash to play these days and some of those in-game shop can use up literally $1000’s

  • Rann Xeroxx says:

Destiny 2 is also a good MMO that is free with a lot of content before you hit the paywall stuff.

    • Someone says:

destiny 2 made a lot of people mad because older players like myself grinded past 750 light from 100 with ability’s needing to refreshed with missions and then they made all the new players start at 750 light and everyone get infinite ability permanently

    Hello
Over a decade ago I played WoW, and switched to DDO about 10 years ago, as I am an old time tabletop D&Der. DDO has 3 levels of membership Free To Play which is limited. Buy the different areas and subscription. I took the buy to play route. I started with FTP and prob brought a few lower level upgrades, then went subscription. You would think that would cover all of the dungeon addons. Nope! Not long after that, they put out a big expansion pack that I had to buy if I wanted to be there, that was equal to 3 months subscriptions! So, I went the add as they came out path. The biggest advantage to me is no monthly fee, for what I felt were few advantages. Currently I can only have one hireling for dungeons and a daily sliver roll for freebies. Paid has at least 2 hires, a weekly gold roll and perhaps some other benefits beyond that and faster progress. I felt it wasn’t worth it and find pay as they come out to be much cheaper in the long run.

    these games are trash

  • BGHausser says:

To add insult to injury, Eve Online is solely P2W because PLEX can literally move you from Point A to Point Z in a matter of 3 seconds. Also, the community is highly toxic due to it being populated by people I like to call “Basement Dwellers”. The subscription also adds the final icing on the cake, the cake that was taken from a Pennsylvania garbage can during soccer games.

  • asdf says:

SWTOR is pay to win. You are not simply encouraged to pony up, you are severely crippled for not doing so.

    • jeremy arecco says:

      • Lee Strait says:

learn how to spell before calling someone a moron 🙂

      • Someone says:

Bruh stop think and leave okay we dont care

    • Sascha says:

I’ve played SWTOR for free and I have never experienced any drawbacks or negative effects! Maybe the others progress faster ok, but how is that influencing me?
Is it a goal to be the fastest to finish the game?
      I do not hink so…

GREAT article! Two thumbs up and 5/5 stars! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with regards to the best MMORPGs available to play free in 2020. I play GW2 mainly right now, but played WoW from around 2007 and many other MMOs, including Defiance and Defiance: 2050 as you mentioned above—of course the original Defiance isn’t *necessarily* an RPG. Well, just wanted to thank you. I’ll be looking for more articles from you! =)
