iOS 18 Finally Allows Audio Playback While Shooting Videos on iPhone

In Short
  • With iOS 18, your iPhone won't stop the audio playback automatically when you switch to the Video mode in the Camera app.
  • The new "Allow Audio PlayBack" option gives you control over the audio playback in dedicated Video mode.
  • On an iPhone, go to Settings -> Camera -> Record Sound and you'll see the Allow Audio PlayBack toggle.

If you’re an iPhone user, you know how annoying it is when the audio playback automatically stops as soon as you switch to the Video mode in the Camera app. It seriously becomes a nuisance when you’re connected to an external speaker or using CarPlay. Thankfully, that won’t be the case anymore. Apple brings a small yet super-useful change with iOS 18 that can make a big difference if you love shooting videos on your iPhone.

The latest iOS 18 adds a feature in the Camera app Settings that lets you choose whether you want the audio to pause or continue playing on your iPhone when you start recording in Video mode.

In the previous versions of iOS, there’s a hidden iOS trick that can help you record seamlessly. However, the issue with this method is that it records video in lower quality than what the dedicated Video mode can shoot. Well, this won’t matter now as iOS 18 allows you to control the audio playback in dedicated Video mode.

Allow Audio Playback Feature in iOS 18

With iOS 18, it’s super easy to allow audio playback when shooting videos on your iPhone. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Open the Settings app and navigate to the Camera section.
  • Here, tap on Record Sound and make sure the Allow Audio PlayBack toggle is turned on.
  • When enabled, your iPhone won’t pause audio playback when recording video. Apple notes that the audio playing through the iPhone’s speaker will be recorded in mono.

That’s how you can allow audio playback when shooting videos on your iPhone. Right now, iOS 18 is available in the Beta version, with the stable version finally arriving sometime in September along with new iPhones. The latest iOS 18 will bring a boatload of exciting features like a revamped Control Center, customizable lock & home screens, redesigned Photos app, and more. Also, if you’ve got an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, you can get your hands on the Apple Intelligence features.
