It has been four years since the release of Genshin Impact and there are still countless mysteries that have yet to be unraveled in the story. One such mystery is the Fake Sky or False Sky was first mentioned by Scaramouche in the 1.1 event and later by Il Dottore “The Doctor” in the Sumeru Archon quest. During this Archon quest, they revealed that the Fatui believe the sky in Teyvat is fake.
Finally, we got to see this fake or false sky for the first time in Genshin Impact during Act 4 of the Natlan Archon quest. So, what is this Fake Sky in Genshin Impact? Although there isn’t very accurate information on it at the moment, here is everything we currently know about it in the game’s lore.
Genshin Impact Fake or False Sky Explained
The notion of a False or Fake Sky is currently known to be first put forth by the Fatui, with Il Dottore and Scaramouch (Wanderer) being the first to reveal it to the players. Mona, who is an astrologist later confirmed that the possibility of the sky of Tevyat being fake is true. In Act IV of Chapter V of the Natlan Archon quest, when Mavuika used the power of Rovona, the Ruler of Death, to defeat the mysterious Abyss entity in the sky, she also seemed to shatter a piece of the sky.
Have you in all your mighty knowledge ever heard the rumor that “the skies of Teyvat are fake”? That’s the secret hidden by Irminsul concerning the “truth” of this world – Il Dottore
That’s when we first had a look at the false or fake sky in Genshin Impact, with part of the sky disappearing in a pixelated fashion and the Abyss entity appearing beyond the sky as destroyed.
The “sky beyond the fake sky” had a dark reddish hue and looked reminiscent of Abyssal energy. At the very end of Act IV of the Archon Quest, players can ask Mavuika about the False Sky. She responds that although she had heard about the expression before, it was the first proof of its existence.
My guess is that the Heavenly Principles wants them kept a secret. I just hope they don’t cause me any trouble over it – Pyro Archon Mavuika
She further says that there needs to be a lot of investigating to be done to understand the fragments behind the sky and why they are hidden. Furthermore, she guesses that the Heavenly Principles want them to be kept a secret. Mavuika also coined the term “Astronomical Anomaly” for the fake sky incident for the masses.
Why Heavenly Principles Is Keeping the False Sky a Secret
Heavenly Principles are the god-like beings who are rumored to be overseeing the proceedings of Teyvat from the background. They are also the ones who first descended in Teyvat and defeated the seven Dragon Sovereigns. The Fake Sky or False Sky has always been rumored to be hidden from the public knowledge by the Heavenly Principles.
Il Dottore also implies it when he talks about the memory of the False sky kept hidden in the Irminsul, which holds all the memories of Teyvat, which clearly means the Heavenly Principles have a hand in it. But why? Although we can only craft theories or look at other fan theories about it without any actual proof, here is what we think is the reason.
- A popular theory about the sky of Teyvat or the stars of Teyvat is that the star constellations are a representation of fates for each vision holder. One theory in the community says that the fates are written by the Heavenly Principle to control the destiny of each person on Teyvat using the fake sky.
- Another theory that I have is that the Heavenly Principles protect Teyvat from something present outside of the false sky. The fake sky is simply a barrier to protect the denizens of Teyvat from this outside force, which can be linked with the Abyss as well. It was Khaenri’ah that first tried using this power from the outside, which started the calamity 500 years ago.
