Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, has appealed to gamers to get a Netflix subscription ahead of the GTA 6 extended look on August 27. The report comes from an IGN interview, where Strauss talks about the nature of the upcoming extended look.
“Well, as you’d imagine, I’m only going to say great things about Netflix,” Strauss said. “If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, you definitely should be one. And as for the trailer itself, it’s coming soon enough that I’ll let you arrive at your own conclusion. I’m sure you’re going to watch it because everyone is.”
Interestingly, during the interview, Strauss also called the GTA 6 extended look an “extended trailer.” This hints that Rockstar Games might be planning to count it as the GTA 6 trailer 3 with an extended preview of the gameplay.
When asked about the deal between Netflix and Rockstar Games, Strauss didn’t go into specifics, instead saying that “Rockstar felt Netflix release would be a great way to show off the extended trailer”. He went on to say that this is a new example of how Rockstar Games is trying out new marketing titles, hoping that more follows in the future.
Their marketing is surely doing a great job, especially with GTA 6 pre-orders reaching astronomical sales as revealed by Strauss himself in the last Take Two investor call.
For gamers who don’t have a Netflix subscription, the GTA 6 extended look would also be released on YouTube and other major outlets six hours after the Netflix release. However, with GTA 6 hype reaching mass hysteria, I am fully certain that the trailer would be circulating on the internet right after it is released on Netflix through “unofficial channels”.
