The Finished Version of Sukuna vs. Mahoraga in Jujutsu Kaisen Blows Away Fans

In Short
  • The promise made by the animators that MAPPA Studios would include a complete version of Sukuna's battles in the Blu-ray release was fulfilled when volumes 4 and 5 were released on March 20, 2024.
  • Episode 41 of the Jujutsu Kaisen season for the new Blu-ray release was entirely rebuilt and updated with new additional scenes and enhanced animation quality.
  • The JJK fans were ecstatic when a few clips from the upcoming Blu-ray episode of "Thunderclap" appeared on X (formerly Twitter).

Sukuna vs. Mahoraga was one of the season-defining battles in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. While it’s undoubtedly one of the greatest fights we’ve seen in the series, it didn’t have remarkable animation quality throughout the episode. Fans expressed their concerns after the episode aired, and this was when the ongoing overworked nature of the animators at MAPPA Studios came to light.

Even one of the key animators made the statement that what we have seen was only “30% of the complete work.” This made us hope and wait for a complete version of the unfinished episodes, and that day is finally here. The new Blu-ray volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 are here with the finished versions of key scenes, and it has blown fans away.

Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc Blu-ray Comes with Finished Anime Episodes

Season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime remained as polished as ever with Gojo’s Past Arc in the first cour. However, while the animation at the start of the Shibuya Incident Arc was top-notch, it started to deteriorate with each passing episode. This was primarily due to the animators’ work situation at the MAPPA Studio, which led to the release of underdeveloped episodes that caused dissatisfaction among the fans.

The animators promised that a finished product would be delivered in the Blu-ray release, and that stayed true as volumes 4 and 5 were released on March 20, 2024, by MAPPA Studios.

One of the animators who worked in season 2 of the anime confirmed that the new Blu-ray release will feature “new cuts and completely rewritten cuts for episode 41.”

For those unaware, Episode 41, or S2E16, titled Thunderclap, is the episode he was talking about in which the exhilarating battles of Sukuna vs. Jogo and Mahoraga took place. Therefore, he essentially confirmed that the Blu-ray release will be significantly different from the already-broadcast version of the anime. And that’s actually the case.

JJK Fans Go Crazy Over the Finished Version of Sukuna vs. Mahoraga Battle

After clips from the new version of “Thunderclap” started to surface on X (previously Twitter), the complete JJK fandom has been filled with ecstasy and utmost joy. The finished anime version of the Sukuna vs Mahoraga battle with additional scenes is truly the real adaptation fans deserved to get in the first place. Anyway, we are lucky enough to get a second chance at it, and the animation is top-tier now. You can view the clips and reactions of the fans below.

Along with many other fans, I’m awestruck by the wonders that animators did with Sukuna’s battles in the final release. I was pretty disappointed with the dip in quality when it was released. But now, I completely take back what I said earlier, and kudos to the animators for doing a marvelous job.

It is said that there were over fifty key animators who worked on these episodes, which is more than the number of people who worked on Jujutsu Kaisen 0 that introduced us to Yuta Okkotsu. With a well-deserved second chance, the animators were able to do true justice to the manga, which is now being celebrated wholeheartedly by fans around the world. That said, what do you think about these new scenes? Let us know in the comments below.
