The Straw Hat Pirates were started by the protagonist of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy. The name originated from the iconic Straw Hat given to Luffy by Shanks. While Luffy initially wanted to join Shanks’ Red Hair Pirates, Shanks ignited a fire inside him to gather his crew and become a great pirate.

Recruiting one new member after another, the Straw Hat Pirates formed a diverse set of members. They went on numerous adventures and started to rise in notoriety at a rapid rate. Now, the Straw Hat Pirates are one of the most notorious and formidable crews in the One Piece world. Luffy has successfully become an Emperor of the Sea (Yonko) after unlocking his Gear 5 technique, while the power levels of every crew member are slowly hitting the skies.

All Straw Hat Pirates Crew Members in Order of Joining

Now, let’s take a look at all the crew members of the Straw Hat Pirates, who are busy helping Luffy achieve his goal in the story. We have listed all the members of the Straw Hat Pirates in the order in which they joined the crew:

1. Monkey D. Luffy

  • Haki: Armament, Observation, and Conqueror’s
  • Bounty: 3,000,000,000 Berries

Monkey D. Luffy was the founder of the Straw Hat Pirates. Influenced by his idol, Shanks, Luffy always dreamt of becoming a pirate and starting his own crew ever since he was a kid. Luffy set out to become the next pirate king and told Shanks that he would put together a greater crew than his idol’s. That was the beautiful start of the Straw Hat Pirates, and Luffy set sail on his own. Later, Luffy managed to bring powerful people to his crew and lead them stronger than ever.

Monkey D. Luffy has created a storm inside the New World and made a name for himself as one who carries the Will of D. He is in his peak form currently, unleashing Gear 5 as he has awakened his Devil Fruit powers. Luffy has already joined the list of the strongest One Piece characters of all time, and he will make it to the top in the future.

Following the Whole Cake Island arc, Luffy was hyped as he was considered to emerge as the fifth emperor of the sea. Fast forward to now, Luffy officially claimed a seat as one of the new emperors of the sea after beating Kaido. There is no doubt that Luffy will become the next pirate king, and we can’t wait for the day he finds the One Piece Treasure.

2. Roronoa Zoro

  • Role: Combatant (Swordsman), Right-hand man of Luffy
  • Crew Debut: Episode 3, Chapter 6
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Armament, Observation, and Conqueror’s
  • Bounty: 1,111,000,000 Berries

Zoro was the first person to join Luffy’s crew as the Swordsman and became the second official member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He was working as a bounty hunter and had earned the fearsome title of “Pirate Hunter Zoro” before meeting Luffy.

Zoro also has a big dream of becoming the world’s best swordsman in One Piece. Luffy invited Zoro to join the Straw Hats when they met in the Romance Dawn arc in One Piece.

At first, Zoro refused to accept the offer but ended up joining the crew after witnessing Luffy’s personality when he rescued him from the Marines. Luffy backed Zoro’s dream and wanted him to be a part of the future pirate king’s crew. You can read all about Zoro and his sword collection in the article linked here, as he owned some of the best swords in One Piece.

Zoro is striving hard to become the strongest swordsman of all time, and he will surpass Mihawk one day. Right now, Zoro is a loyal mate to Luffy and belongs to the monster trio along with him and Sanji. Many characters mistake Zoro for being the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates; nonetheless, he is the right-hand man of Luffy.

3. Nami

  • Role: Navigator
  • Crew Debut: Episode 43, Chapter 94
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty: 366,000,000 Berries

Nami was the second member to join the Straw Hats as the Navigator during the Orange Town arc. But she tricked Luffy and joined the crew only to steal money from them to reclaim her village from the Arlong pirates. She was a member of the Arlong Pirates during that time. But after Luffy learned about this incident, he rescued her village by beating down the Arlong pirates.

Nami officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of the Arlong Park arc (check out all arcs in One Piece), pursuing her dream of making a map of the entire planet. You can check out facts you didn’t know about Nami to learn more about her character.

Over the years, Nami served as a great navigator and led the crew wisely during their adventures. She is already one of the best female characters in One Piece. Although she was considered one of the weaklings, she recently proved her courage and power with her Sorcery Clima-Tact. Combining her weapon with Zeus, she created devastating attacks and defeated Ulti herself.

Nami is getting stronger day by day and proving her worth as one of the main members of the Straw Hat Pirates.

4. Usopp

  • Role: Sniper
  • Crew Debut: Episode 17, Chapter 41
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Observation
  • Bounty: 500,000,000 Berries

Usopp was the third member to join the Straw Hat Pirates as the Sniper. He initially led the Usopp Pirates in his village, but he joined Luffy’s crew after the events of the Syrup Village arc. After Luffy befriended him and helped save his friend, Kaya, Ussop accepted the invitation of the Straw Hats to become a brave warrior of the sea like his father.

His father is Yasopp (from Red Hair Pirates), and he mentioned Usopp to Luffy when he was a kid. Usopp’s friend Kaya gifted the Going Merry ship to Luffy, helping them kick off their journey to the Grand Line.

Usopp earned the God Usopp title with his luck and brave acts, making him more like the Buggy of the Straw Hat pirates. But after years, he has managed to become a highly skilled sniper with his Kabuto slingshot. He is also considered among the weaklings, but is rising in power gradually. We hope to see more of Usopp’s power upgrades in the ongoing Elbaf arc soon, and there are already popular Usopp theories that he may get the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi devil fruit.

5. Vinsmoke Sanji

  • Role: Cook
  • Crew Debut: Episode 30, Chapter 68
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Armament, and Observation
  • Bounty: 1,032,000,000 Berries

Sanji was the fourth member to join the Straw Hat Pirates as the Cook at the end of the Baratie arc in One Piece. One of the important things for Luffy was food, and he had luckily recruited the best chef in the world for his crew. Sanji dreamed of finding All Blue, a sea legend that refers to the only place where the North Blue, South Blue, East Blue, and West Blue seas meet in the One Piece world. This was also the dream of Sanji’s mentor, Zeff. So he decided to join Luffy’s crew in their adventures worldwide to fulfill his dream.

Sanji is also a part of the monster trio alongside Luffy and Zoro and is the third strongest member of the Straw Hat Pirates crew. Later, it was revealed that Sanji hailed from the Vinsmoke family, as he managed to awaken the genetic advancements that lay dormant inside him.

He possesses incredible strength and is one of the excellent combatants of the Straw Hats crew now. Also, he has a hefty bounty on his head right now as he defeated Queen, an all-star member of the Beast Pirates, during the raid, and it’s about to go even higher as he was an MVP during the Egghead arc.

6. Tony Tony Chopper

  • Role: Doctor
  • Crew Debut: Episode 85, Chapter 153
  • Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi (Human-Human Fruit)
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty: 1,000 Berries

The fifth member to join the Straw Hat Pirates crew was the Doctor Tony Tony Chopper. Every crew needed to have a doctor on their ship, as anything could happen during the perilous journey through the oceans. Chopper wasn’t a human, but a reindeer. He got this human hybrid form after eating the Hito Hito no Mi devil fruit.

So, like others, he joined Luffy’s crew to pursue his dream of becoming the best doctor in the world and curing all incurable diseases by traveling around the globe. Chopper was also a part of the weakling trio, alongside Ussop and Nami, and had a bounty of only 1,000 Berries.

However, don’t let these facts fool you, as he possesses excellent medical and combat skills. Chopper has grown to become a great doctor and has also aided in battles with his monster capabilities. He has immense strength and willpower to overcome anything, and it’s only a matter of time before the World Government finds out about his true powers.

7. Nico Robin

  • Role: Archaeologist
  • Crew Debut: Episode 130, Chapter 218
  • Devil Fruit: Hana Hana no Mi (Flower-Flower Fruit)
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty:930,000,000 Berries

Nico Robin was the sixth member to become part of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece. She joined the crew as their archaeologist. Nico was first seen as an antagonist during the Arabasta arc, but later joined the crew to pursue her dream of uncovering the history of the world, especially during the Void Century.

She is one of the very few people in the world who can read the poneglyphs. Since Luffy wanted to reach the Laugh Tale and find the One Piece treasure, it could not be done without the help of Nico Robin.

Shockingly, Nico had a massive bounty of 79,000,000 berries even when she was just 8 years old. Over time, she has grown into a bigger threat to the world government as she can read poneglyphs. Apart from honing her archaeological skills, Robin also has dangerous Paramecia Devil Fruit powers at her disposal. Robin is a vital member of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the whole crew would do anything to rescue her, as seen during the Enies Lobby arc.

8. Franky

  • Role: Shipwright
  • Crew Debut: Episode 322, Chapter 437
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty: 394,000,000 Berries

The crew needed a Shipwright at the end of the Post-Enies Lobby arc; fortunately, Franky filled that slot as the seventh member of the crew. Similar to Robin, he was initially considered to be an adversary of the Straw Hats, but later turned into an ally and made up for his mistakes by building an absolutely beautiful ship for the Straw Hats, the Thousand Sunny.

He dreamed of building a ship and traveling all over the world; therefore, he accepted Luffy’s invitation to become the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates. Moreover, you might remember Queen of the Beast Pirates. The recent Vivre cards of Queen heavily hinted that he is the father of Franky in the story, who abandoned the kid when Franky was just 10 years old. Luckily, Tom-san took him under his wing along with Iceburg.

Franky is an extremely talented shipwright and has created many new inventions for the current ship. Since he was a cyborg from a young age, he made ‘SUPERRR’ upgrades to his body and also invented vehicles and weapons for the Straw Hats crew.

Additionally, he has the blueprints of the ancient weapon Pluton, which is a big deal if you know. This will definitely help the crew in the final war that’s breaking out in the story right now. Thus, Franky is rightfully known as the Iron Man of the Straw Hat Pirates.

9. Brook

  • Roles: Musician, Swordsman
  • Crew Debut: Episode 381, Chapter 489
  • Devil Fruit: Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit)
  • Haki: Unconfirmed
  • Bounty: 383,000,000 Berries

Brook was the eighth member to join the Straw Hat Pirates as the crew’s Musician in the One Piece anime. He joined the crew at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, as Luffy always wanted to have a musician in his crew. Brook ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi devil fruit, allowing him to come back from the dead. He was living alone for 50 years in the Florian Triangle, but luckily, he met Luffy on his voyage to Thriller Bark. And without any hesitation, Luffy invited Brook to join them when he was only a skeleton roaming the seas.

For a while, Brook’s Origin Story remained shrouded in mystery. Now his time as a leader of a battle convoy is slowly beginning to unravel as Oda teased a connection between Brook and Gunko, a God’s Knight recently in the Elbaf arc. Let’s hope we get a complete picture of Brook’s past soon.

Brook is a talented musician and an excellent swordsman when it comes to fighting. Moreover, he has some amazing Devil Fruit powers as well. Brook is the perfect example of a formidable veteran pirate whose experiences helped the crew very much and continue to do so on their voyage. His dream is to reunite with Laboon (a giant blue whale) and fulfill his promise.

10. Jinbe

Jinbe in One Piece anime.

  • Role: Helmsman
  • Crew Debut: Episode 980, Chapter 976
  • Devil Fruit: None
  • Haki: Observation and Armament
  • Bounty: 1,100,000,000 Berries

Jinbe was the ninth and latest member to join the Straw Hat Pirates as their Helmsman. Among everyone else, Jinbe was the only one we waited years to join the crew. Luffy befriended Jinbe in the Impel Down arc and invited him during the events of the Fishman Island arc. As Jinbe was an ally of the Big Mom Pirates, he had to cut ties with her before and promised Luffy to join the crew soon.

This even became a popular meme among One Piece fans, in which Luffy says, “I’ll be waiting for you at the Land of Wano!” Jinbe finally reunited with the Straw Hat Pirates in the Wano arc and officially became the tenth pirate of the crew.

Just like Brook, Jinbe is also an experienced pirate and used to be a warlord of the seas. He is one of the strongest Fishmen in One Piece with great pride, as everyone knows, and is extremely skilled at Fishman karate. Continuing the theme, Jinbe’s dream is to stop the discrimination against Fishmen and to create a world where Humans and Fishmen can co-exist in peace.

Honorary Straw Hat Member: Nefertari D. Vivi

Nefertari Vivi was one of the most surprising (short-term) additions to the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of the Whiskey Peak arc.

As the princess of the Arabasta Kingdom, she wanted to get her country back from Crocodile, who led Baroque Works at the time. She worked as a spy for him and later joined hands with the Straw Hats to get her country back. After the Straw Hats defeated the organization and restored peace in Arabasta, she chose to stay in her country and work for its welfare.

Although she chose to stay back home, Vivi is still considered a member of the Straw Hats in the hearts of the crew members and fans, including ourselves. She is the only former member for now, or can be called the unofficial member of the Straw Hats.

With the recent reveals, Vivi also has the initial D in her name (read more about the Will of D here). Vivi is currently teased to reunite with the crew in the ongoing Elbaf arc at the moment.

Straw Hat Pirates’ Jolly Roger

While you’re here, take a look at the Straw Hats’ Jolly Roger in One Piece as well. Their Jolly Roger is simple and easily recognizable. The distinctive straw hat perched on the skull makes it even more iconic. As Luffy continues his journey to becoming the pirate king and conquering the seas, we hope to see this jolly roger achieve a legendary status in the future.

What Are the Ships of the Straw Hat Pirates?

Ships of Straw Hats

The first-ever ship of the Straw Hat Pirates was the beloved Going Merry, which Kaya gifted during the events of the Syrup Village Arc. Going Merry carried our Straw Hats through the treacherous until it couldn’t anymore. The crew cherished Merry as one of their very own member, and bidding farewell to Merry is still one of the saddest moments in the One Piece series.

When the crew needed a new ship to continue their adventures, the newly joined Franky came in clutch and made the “Thousand Sunny,” which is currently the main ship of the Straw Hat Pirates. It has been with the crew for a long time since the Post-Ennies Lobby arc. Now this ship is heavily hinted to receive its much-needed upgrades for the final war, as Franky was seen gathering information about the Adam Tree in Elbaf. Thus, let’s see if we get to see a brand new version of Thousand Sunny at the end of the Elbaf arc.

Hopefully, the Straw Hat Pirates will be the ones to surpass the legendary Roger Pirates, and Luffy will become the future pirate king by the end of the series. In the meantime, let us know who your favorite Straw Hat Pirate is in the comments below.

Who is the 11th member of the Straw Hat Pirates?

Yamato is going to become the 11th member of the Straw Hat Pirates soon. We thought he would become one by the end of the Wano arc, but unfortunately, he stayed behind to help Momonosuke and the others raise Wano back to glory again. But Yamato is confirmed to be the unofficial 11th member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

How old is Luffy?

Currently, Luffy is 19 years old after the time skip in the One Piece manga and anime. The exact age details are currently unknown.

Who are the 10 Straw Hats?

Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbe are the 10 members of the Straw Hat Pirates currently.
