James Gunn Confirms Casting of Wonder Woman Villain in Creature Commandos

With the revamped DCU in the works, James Gunn is up and about recasting DC characters and adding new ones to the list as well. In another update from Gunn, he explicitly corroborated and confirmed the casting of a major Wonder Woman villain. James Gunn has officially confirmed that Anya Chalotra, previously seen in The Witcher will be portraying Circe in the upcoming Creature Commandos animated series on HBO Max. Gunn has already confirmed that voice actors for animated projects will also play their roles in live-action. So, we will probably see her against a yet-to-be-cast Wonder Woman in upcoming DCU projects.

Several rumors were floating around the casting of this character and a DC fan took the query up to James Gunn in a post on Threads stating “Is it true that Anya Chalotra will be playing Circe in Creature Commandos?”. To this, James Gunn Replied-

“Yes. And there are other cool characters in the show played by other cool actors. But all of the series regulars were announced.”– James Gunn

The rest of the leading cast has already been announced and includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. and Indira Verma as Frankenstein’s Bride.

Who is Wonder Woman’s Circe?

Making her debut in Wonder Woman #37 published in 1949, Circe is an immortal sorceress who is a reappearing character in Wonder Woman’s comic run. Her powers and her name both are taken from a Greek goddess of the same name. In the comic books, she is one of the most dangerous villains that Wonder Woman had to fight against and has also taken a solid stand against Superman and his cousin, Supergirl.

However, you might think that if Circe is a Wonder Woman character, why is her debut being made in Creature Commandos? Well, if you ask me, as far as I think, introducing her in this series might be canon to the upcoming DCU show, Paradise Lost.

In Creature Commandoes we will get to see an animated version of Circe and most probably, in the future, we will get to see Anya Chalotra as the live-action adaptation of Circe. As of now, we do not know who is going to play Wonder Woman in DCU but as soon as we get our hands on some information, we’ll certainly let you guys know ASAP. Till then, stay tuned.
