Is Ultraman a Clone of Superman: What Do DC Comics Say?

In Short
  • Ultraman was not a clone of Superman in DC Comics.
  • In the comics, Ultraman was an alternate version of Superman from Earth-3, where instead of being a hero, he was a sadist tyrant.
  • In Superman, he is thought to be Ultraman because of the logo on his chest, but it could also be the DCU version of Bizarro created by Lex Luthor.

While Superman is kicking it in the theaters, we have to admit that what none of us expected to see was the number of villains that featured in the movie. Looking at just the trailer, it’s safe to say that the number of people challenging the Man of Steel is quite high, and among those villains, one is Ultraman. Now, fans think that this Ultraman appearing in the DCU is a clone of Superman, but is he? Let’s dive into DC comics to find out!

In the trailer of Superman (2025), it is pretty evident that Ultraman is strong enough to subdue Superman and arrest him. This made the fanbase think that he could be a clone of Superman, but if we look at DC comics, it’s a different story altogether. In DC Comics, Ultraman was not a clone of Superman but an alternate version of Superman from Earth-3. However, on Earth-3, Ultraman is not a good guy but an evil tyrant.

Since it would be overkill to introduce a multiversal concept in DC with their first movie itself, they have twisted Ultraman. In Superman(2025), Ultraman is a clone of Superman created by Lex Luthor using a strand of Superman’s hair. Even though by the end of the movie, it feels like Superman killed Ultraman, there is a chance that he will return in DCU as Bizarro sometime in the future. So, let’s wait and see what happens.
