The Egghead arc has advanced to become one of the best arcs in One Piece history. However, after experiencing all the highs in this arc, it also made us despair and suffer with the unknown fates of our favorite characters, such as Monkey D. Garp and now Dr. Vegapunk. We finally got to meet Dr. Vegapunk in the Egghead Island arc, but do we bid goodbye to the old man in the same arc? Well, things are certainly not looking good for him, so let’s find out whether Vegapunk is alive or not in One Piece.

Dr. Vegapunk Being Hunted by the World Government
Let us start by talking about the incidents involving Dr. Vegapunk on Egghead Island. Dr. Vegapunk was planned to be assassinated at Egghead Island, as fans might be aware. CP0 was tasked with finding the old man and killing him as he uncovered the truth behind the mysteries of the One Piece universe, such as the Ancient Kingdom, the Ohara Incident, etc.
The World Government knew that Stella, the main Vegapunk satellite, would one day understand the truth and betray them by revealing it to the whole world. So, they have always had a plan ready to dispose of him as soon as they are done with exploiting him and utilizing his inventions.
Throughout this arc, Dr. Vegapunk has had near-death experiences but was saved by the Straw Hat Pirates. However, that didn’t last long as his previous acquaintances, including Kizaru and Saturn, one of the Five Elders, came into action to eliminate the man of science before he did something that could potentially overthrow the World Government.
Dr. Vegapunk Gets Stabbed by Elder Saturn
In the heated engagement in the Egghead arc, Bonney was about to be killed by Pacifistas. So, Dr. Vegapunk gave Bonney supreme authority over Pacifistas because he couldn’t see Bonney getting hurt or killed by those creations made based on her father.
This was the only selfish decision Dr. Vegapunk made in his entire career under the regime of the World Government. While it was a righteous decision, St Saturn felt betrayed by this action from Stella. As they were ready to assassinate the old man, this further added fuel to the unquenchable fire.
So, an enraged Saint Saturn in his demonic form lifted one of his spider-like legs and pierced it straight into Stella’s body. Saturn was the first to deliver a fatal blow to the old man. This was followed by a remark from Dr. Vegapunk, who acknowledged that he was sure that he would die immediately if he moved.
However, this attack was not enough to put down the old man. Then, who delivered the final blow to Dr. Vegapunk, you ask? Learn about that below.
Who Killed Dr. Vegapunk in One Piece?
Along with CP0, one of the strongest admirals in One Piece, Kizaru was entrusted with ending the life of one of the biggest threats in the World Government’s eyes— his old friend Dr. Vegapunk, i.e. Stella. Kizaru was often seen questioning his morals and ideals in this arc. However, the admiral continued to be a cog in the government’s machinery and carried out his duties.
As a result, when Sanji was carrying the already severely wounded Vegapunk, Kizaru interrupted them and kicked Sanji away. With this opening, Kizaru didn’t hesitate to unleash a killer blow using the powers of the Pika Pika no Mi (one of the strongest Logia-type devil fruits). Thus, Kizaru’s ruthless laser beam served as the life-ending attack that killed Dr. Vegapunk right before Luffy and Sanji’s eyes.
So Vegapunk’s old friend, Kizaru, killed the old genius, Stella, in the Egghead arc in the One Piece manga and anime series.
So, Is Dr. Vegapunk Dead in One Piece?
Vegapunk, aka Stella, is confirmed to be dead in One Piece. After Saturn pierced through the scientist’s body with his spider leg, Kizaru dealt the final blow and ultimately killed Dr. Vegapunk in the story. Moreover, with his demise, Dr. Vegapunk started the transmission, which revealed to the world the truth about the One Piece universe.

It’s the trump card that would only be played after his death. So, now that the message has aired completely to the world, it has essentially confirmed that our brainiac is no more.
Since Sanji failed the task of carrying Vegapunk to the ship, every fan was harsh with the Straw Hats Pirates’ cook. But it was disclosed later that Vegapunk had already made up his mind to sacrifice his life way earlier. He was prepared to die so that his message to the world would be more impactful to the people of One Piece.
Later, we learn that the Straw Hats brought Dr. Vegapunk’s body to the Giants’ ship as they embarked to their homeland, Elbaf. While everyone is convinced that Dr. Vegapunk is dead, Lilith, one of the old man’s satellites, delivered the shocking twist that Vegapunk can still be revived. Lilith stated that the thing she wanted Jinbe to carry from the Egghead island was an ‘ideal clone’ of Stella, aka Dr. Vegapunk’s main body.
Remember when Dr. Vegapunk went to the ruins of Ohara Island after it was destroyed due to the Buster Call? The genius created a clone of himself so that the World Government wouldn’t notice his absence when he left for that island. This perfect clone comes in handy again, as Lilith remarked that she plans to resurrect Dr. Vegapunk using his perfect clone by building a new lab in Elbaf.
As we are aware, Vegapunk’s brain, aka Punk Records, is safe, thanks to Edison and the combined efforts of all satellites. Lilith will likely connect with Edison, and the satellites can work together to revive their main body, Stella, soon in the story. Therefore, Vegapunk may have been dead, but he is bound to cheat death as the creator heavily hints at reviving the brainiac character soon.
What’s the Future of Dr. Vegapunk and His Satellites?
It was beyond exciting to finally meet Dr. Vegapunk and his satellites; however, those smiles didn’t last long as we already lost the main Stella and many satellites. Nevertheless, Edison came in clutch and made a new version of the body with the rescued components of the dead bodies of Vegapunk satellites.
We believed Stella’s death didn’t go in vain, and a part of him still lives in his satellites. Stella’s main brain inside the “Punk Records” was also saved by Edison. Little did we know that the main body, Stella, was getting ready to be resurrected in the story after a profound death. But it makes sense as Vegapunk is yet to achieve his lifelong dream in One Piece.

As you are aware, author Eiichiro Oda doesn’t like to kill off his characters unless it’s absolutely necessary. At the end of One Piece, Vegapunk’s dream utopian world will come into existence, and of course, we hope our old man will be back to witness his dream turning into reality.
So we may get to see our favorite old man again, and we will hear more about his satellites in the story. They will certainly play a role in aiding our Straw Hat crew in the final war of One Piece.
