How to Turn Off Snapchat Story Notifications

Snapchat is the best place to flaunt what you did over the day by adding a gallery worth of photos to your Snapchat Story. But those of us on the receiving end can get a bit annoyed when the phone starts buzzing with a barrage of notifications of our friends adding new stories on the platform. If you are tired of this and wish to turn off story notifications on Snapchat, then here are a few ways to do it.

Method 1: Turn Off Snapchat Story Notifications for Everyone

Let’s say you wish to detox yourself from social media or, like me, you don’t care much about stories anyway. Then, Snapchat has an option to turn off all story notifications completely. This way, you won’t be alerted for any stories your friends post on the app. These are the steps to access it.

1. On Snapchat, tap on your Bitmoji avatar at the top left.
2. Then, tap on the gear icon at the top right.
3. Inside Settings, open Notifications and navigate to Friend Stories.
4. Here, uncheck the Stories from friends, Private Stories from friends, and Stories from contacts boxes.

This way, you can ensure that Snapchat won’t disturb you about any stories posted in your circle.

Method 2: Turn Off Snapchat for Individual Friends

Probably you don’t want to disable all stories, just from that one over-sharing friend who shares a life update every hour or so in their Snapchat story. Or maybe you want to give silent treatment to someone and don’t want to know when they shared a story. In those cases, you can disable story notifications for individuals from the app. Here’s how you can do it.

1. On Snapchat, head over to the Chats screen.
2. Here, long press the chat of the person whose story notifications you want to disable.
3. In the pop-up menu, tap on Story Settings.
4. Turn off the toggle for Story Notifications and tap on Done.

Method 3: Mute Story Alerts using Android Settings

This method is exclusively available on Android. You can turn off story alerts from Snapchat using Android’s notification categories. With this, you can mute story notifications, even if all the options are toggled on within the app, just in case you don’t want any of your friends to get suspicious.

1. Long-press the Snapchat icon on your Android phone.
2. Tap on the i icon. This will take you to the App info page in settings.
3. Here, select Notifications.
4. Then turn off the New Stories and Story reminders toggles.

On OnePlus or other devices, the steps are a bit different.

1. Go to App info > Manage Notifications.
2. Then scroll down and select Story reminders.
3. Turn off the Allow notifications toggle.
4. Repeat the above to disable the Stories in Discover option.
