GTA 6’s Marketing Silence Feels Even Louder Now That the World Cup Is Over

With the World Cup now over, GTA 6’s marketing should have ramped up, but the opposite has happened. Rockstar has nothing new to show, and while there’s a lot of speculation, most of it is just high-grade “copium”. Yes, we could see a new trailer release today, July 21, 2026, but honestly, we need to stop with these expectations.

GTA 6 will release a little under four months from now. Thus far, we’ve gotten only two trailers over the span of two and a half years. To put it into perspective, Palworld has had more updates in the past few weeks compared to the promotional material we’ve gotten for GTA 6 over the years, and that’s okay. I’m going to tell you why.

“World Cup Is Over: GTA 6 Will Now Get Global Attention!” – Please, Stop!

During the FIFA World Cup 2026, Rockstar went radio silent about GTA 6. With it now being over, the silence is deafening, but only if you keep expecting to hear something all the time. I understand that it feels empty. No more match announcements, no drama, no bickering on social media about who’s the best player of all time; and that’s normal.

The World Cup was a distraction from GTA 6, or so some say, and with it being over, expectations are once more on the line. However, do we really need more trailers just yet? We’ve already got a rundown of the main characters in GTA 6 and a bit of their backstory. We know about the chapter-based progression system and other aspects of the game. What more do we need? Heck, even Marvel dropped the official trailer for Avengers Doomsday.

Look at it this way: let’s assume Take Two reveals something during the next investor meeting on August 7, 2026. They show us gameplay, more backstory, some intricate details about GTA 6, and then what? We watch the new trailer and again beg Rockstar for more minutes after the trailer ends. Eventually, we’re living the game through promotional material.

If you enjoy that, that’s fine, but that is exactly what Rockstar doesn’t want to do. They’ve given us enough to understand that GTA 6 will be brilliant. They could have tied up with the World Cup in a way to promote things, but they don’t need to. The truth is: Rockstar wants you to feel the silence. They want you to yearn for what’s about to come.

That’s why, if you don’t see another trailer till a few days before GTA 6 pre-loads go live, don’t be too surprised (or disappointed). Rockstar is incredible at marketing, and using FOMO to market is more effective than any trailer could have been. Because at the end of the day, we all want to play GTA 6.

If they had only shown us pictures until now, we’d all still pre-order GTA 6 in a heartbeat. They know this; we know this, and to paraphrase Captain Price, “Rockstar has gone dark.” They’ll likely remain inactive with their marketing for the next few weeks. There’s nothing more that they need to reveal, especially since the game has gone live for pre-orders. That’s the truth.

Do Rockstar Even Care About Promoting GTA 6?

Of course, they care. It’s for that very reason that they gave fans GTA 6 easter eggs in GTA Online. Wasn’t anything major, but it helped keep the hype train chugging along, albeit slowly. They’ve even hinted at introducing community servers by making job listings public. However, one truth is undeniable, which is: the product has essentially been sold, and showcasing anything else this soon makes zero sense.

They can keep us all in limbo until launch day, and we’ll still be as excited as we are now. They are using what I would like to call anticipatory anxiousness to keep promoting GTA 6 without any new material, and it’s working. Pre-orders will keep ticking, and social media hashtags will be doing their job without Rockstar having to lift a finger. Don’t believe me? Have a look at the posts above.

That said, there’s nothing wrong with wishful thinking, but being overzealous and enthusiastic might lead to disappointment. The notion that Rockstar will start promoting GTA 6 now that the World Cup is over is a bit silly. Nevertheless, I could be wrong, and everything I said could be proven incorrect, but I suppose time will tell.
