Top Batman Games in 2020

1. Batman Arkham Asylum

Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum is one of the best portrayals of Batman. The ambiance is dark, gritty and intense – everything which comes to mind when you think about Batman. The physics in the game are also spot on and it’s especially noticeable when your cape moves with your punches.

The gameplay is a combination of many other games, but with it tailor made for Batman. The main gameplay is heavily story-dependent, and the story is excellent. The story is focused in Joker and Gotham, and we won’t go in much to it to preserve the story.

15 Best Batman Games You Should Play

The game has a well-built combat system but focuses more on stealth. Many missions will have you unlock doors and such in different ways. All in all, the game is one of the best batman game ever. And everyone should try it.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Download Batman Arkham Asylum from Steam ($4.99)

2. Batman Arkham City

Batman Arkham City is a sequel to the Arkham Asylum, it takes place months after it, and is similarly a story led the game. In this sequel, the warden from Arkham Asylum is the mayor of Gotham and places the villains into a special area in Gotham.

This place is the Arkham City and this is where the events of the game take place. Being an amazing sequel, this game takes the physics and combat system of Asylum and refines it into something much better. Now Batman has counter attacks, the ability to use almost every gadget with a hot key, and the ability to attack multiple foes.

Arkham City has a lot of enemies to keep you entertained. Apart from Major bosses like Mr. Freeze, and the Penguin, there are many other enemies which are different. Some have stun rods while others have armors.

Each of these enemies has to be approached differently. And this diversity along with the story and the interactive gameplay makes this another amazing game. For me, it is one of the best if not the best batman games that one can play right now.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Download Batman Arkham City from Steam ($4.99)

3. Batman Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knight finishes what Arkham Asylum started. It is the last series of the Arkham line, and throughout the game, you can feel the finality. Rocksteady manages to surpass themselves once again with another amazing Batman game.

Arkham Knight brings all the villains and Batman’s allies into this game, which makes for a grand ending. Arkham Knight is also a story dependent game. This story revolves around Batman’s psyche and the anti-Batman created to stop Batman known as the Arkham Knight.

The gameplay is what you can expect it to be – top notch. With the expansion in the gameplay, the map also increased in size, and with this increase, transportation is better used in the game. The Batmobile becomes a vital part in the game and many puzzles and missions are played out with it as well.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Download Batman Arkham Knight from Steam ($4.99)

4. Batman: The Telltale Series

The Telltale series of Batman is completely different from the Arkham series of games. Right from the first episode, which is available to play for free, you’ll feel a sense of connection with the series just like every Telltale game.

Telltale is known for making the player know about the consequences of their actions. This is what plays out in the game as well. Every action of yours will have a reaction, but with conflicting views, it is up to you to decide the path. The game revolves around the mayor of Gotham – Harvey Dent – and Bruce Wayne.

The game uses the two characters to create tension. In the beginning, you will be faced with decisions that won’t be as huge as others. But, you will be conflicted as to what to choose; to choose what you want, or what Bruce Wayne would do.

Although this is a Bruce Wayne story, and the emotional uneasiness of him starting out as Batman. Batman himself makes multiple appearances to help solve puzzles. The game is amazing which puts a heavy load on the player to make the right decisions.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS, Android

5. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate

If you remember the Arkhan Origins installment by Armature Studio then you are going to love the new rendition by WB Games. The game publisher has enhanced the 2.5D gameplay with brand new batsuits, maps, difficulty levels, and encounter scenarios with enemies.

What I love about this Blackgate edition is the absolute stealthy visuals for which the Batman series is so popular. You have almost the same storyline, but there is a shadow of dark visuals that draws your attention the moment you start the game. As for the gameplay, it features stealth gameplay with free-flow combat and you have, of course, the full arsenal of Batman’s gadgets.

Basically, you are going to have an action-packed Arkham experience imbued in a dark and dense adventure. I would say, you must play this Batman game if you appreciate intricate details.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS

6. Batman: Arkham Origins

Many consider Batman: Arkham Origins to be a basic video game, but for those users who want to begin playing Batman games, it’s a great starting point. It features pivotal stories that finally shape Batman’s character in the city, Gotham.

The game is actually a prequel to Arkham City and Asylum so if you are a beginner, you must begin with Origins first. In this game, you get to train a young and raw Batman who is supposed to face the deadliest assassins from the DC world. B

ut these are the defining moments that you are going to absolutely love as you see Batman grow and become a superhero. Having said that, keep in mind, the WB Games has retired the online version and now you can only play single-player campaigns. Nonetheless, Batman: Arkham Origins is all about the inception and you can’t afford to miss it.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Download Batman: Arkham Origins from Steam ($19.99)

7. Batman: The Enemy Within

Batman: The Enemy Within is the last installment of the Telltale series and it deserves a separate mention on this list. This Batman game is all about puzzles and riddle. A heartless federal agent has returned to the Gotham city and now both Bruce Wayne and Batman is forced to adopt new roles.

The more Bruce Wayne tries to make allies, he descends into another hollow of darkness. Distrust is at the peak and the return of Jokes makes it even harder for Batman to make the right choices. In this puzzling scenario, you are to choose whom to trust and make your allies. I would say, not just for the narration and stellar sound effects, just for the storyline, this Batman installment is worth your time.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, Nintendo Switch, macOS

Download Batman: The Enemy Within from Steam ($14.99)

8. The Adventures Of Batman And Robin

The Adventures of Batman and Robin is a classic game based on the animated series. It is a 2D action and puzzle game with multiple levels. In this game, combat is great despite the age of the game. As you progress, more enemies come to stop you, and beating them up is quite entertaining.

But that is not the only focus in this game. All the levels work in their own way, and this variety is another aspect of the game, keeping it fresh as well. Every level starts with a conversation between Batman and his allies, after which you can equip items to help in the level.  The dialogues are all straight from the shows, which will make the fans quite entertained. The game might be old but it is still playable today.

Compatibility: SNES, Sega

9. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

LEGO Batman 2 is a different type of game. It is based upon LEGO blocks. So, everything can be broken or be made into something. Unlike other LEGO games, it has a couple of changes, as well as a great story. This was also the first LEGO game that has a full voice cast to add more flare to the game.

For the game itself, it is an amazing one. The game starts with Lex Luthor running for president along with the Joker and using Kryptonite to fill out ballots. The tone for the entire game is set by this as in the game Batman, Superman and the entire Justice League sets out to stop Luthor and The Joker.

The game has similar gameplay to other LEGO games. You collect LEGO pieces. Build your way out of a predicament and so on, but with added bonuses. The characters have new abilities which are really fun to use.

Cyborg is magnetized, Wonder Woman can lasso, and as you progress, more abilities surface with every character. The game also includes new suits for Batman and Robin which are pretty cool.

Compatibility: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Android, PC

10. Batman: Gotham City Racer

This is an old spin on the Batman Universe. The game came out in the days of the PS One where people were trying to put a new spin on Batman. Contrary to the title, in Gotham City Racer, you do not actually race opponents; rather the clock. The gameplay is quite simple with a little storyline: All the villains have escaped the Arkham Asylum and it is your job as Batman to round them up.

The way you round them up is by going on 51 different missions while driving the Batmobile. Every mission will have you complete an objective. It does get repetitive but the thrill of driving the Batmobile is present and makes it worthwhile.

The game even managed to put a boss battle type scenario where you have to deplete the enemy’s life to proceed. The game also has some cut scenes from the animated series to add into the story.

Compatibility: PlayStation

11. Injustice 2

The original Injustice was already to be a great fighting game when it arrived back in 2013. So when its successor, the Injustice 2 arrived in 2017, a lot of people hopped into the game expecting nothing but stellar gameplay. Well, it’s safe to say that the game lived up to its hype.

Among all the other heroes, players also get to play as Batman, so we had to add it to this list. It’s available on a variety of platforms, and it has all the major characters of the DCU such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and much more.

The gameplay is smooth with a fluid combat mechanism which makes jumping and landing punches satisfying. The game also has a competitive online mode where you can battle with other players.

Compatibility: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Download Injustice 2 from Steam ($49.99)

12. DC Universe Online

DC Universe Online is another game where Batman makes an appearance without being the main character. The DC Universe Online is an online RPG. The core concept is of like other RPG games but with DC characters. There are many character templates to help you create your character if you do not want to completely make a custom one, it can also be a villain.

The game has a nice combat system where your characters can fight to gain XP and level up. Leveling up gives you access to new skills and abilities which make the game more fun and engaging. After completing the story mode, you can also engage in story-based raids, co-op encounters, and PvP battles.

Compatibility: PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One

13. Batman: Arkham VR

Another game by Rocksteady in the Arkham lineup, this is hands down the most immersive Batman game due to the Virtual Reality aspect. This obviously requires the PS VR and the move controllers, and if you have got them then this should be on your list. This makes you feel like you are Batman.

There’s nothing like looking eye to eye to other characters and interacting with them. The game is relatively simple, but enthralling no doubt. This is focused on the story like other Arkham games, so we can’t give away much, but do know that there are plenty of surprises.

You can interact and search bodies with your hands using the move controllers, and using gadgets is extremely fun. This game breathes new life into the world of Batman and everyone should give this a go.

Compatibility: PS4, PC

Download Batman: Arkham VR ($19.99)

14. Batman Vengeance (PC, PS2, Xbox)

Batman Vengeance is a story-based game that came out in the days of the Xbox and PlayStation 2. It follows an interesting story where the events lead up to one another perfectly. The game starts with a woman in trouble in a building. Batman saves her, and this starts the chain of events which leads to Batman being framed.

The story is the main aspect of the game, as it is an interesting one with twists and turns. The gameplay is no slouch either with straightforward levels, and Batgirl on call to help you where you get stuck. The game offers various puzzles and maps to play and the bosses have different abilities and are tough.

Compatibility: PC, PS2, Xbox

15. Batman Begins

The game Batman Begins is the game version of the hit film with the same name. It follows the film almost entirely. It is full of tension and is intense. One of the main features of this game is that it has voice-overs from actors who played their roles, such as Christian Bale as Batman, and even Liam Neeson, along with other actors who played a part in the movie. The game has a nice story, as it follows the movie.

The game starts off in the Himalayas where a young Bruce Wayne is taught the way of the ninja. In the end of his training, he realizes killing isn’t the answer and from there on the scene shifts to Gotham City where you are after mysterious drug traffickers. Batman has all the standard moves and abilities.

He can climb walls, jump over fences, throw punches and has a handful of gadgets. The game also has you drive a Batmobile. The game has a decent gameplay with an amazing story.

Compatibility: PS2, Xbox, GBA

Buy Batman Begins from Amazon ($13.99)

Bonus: Superman/Batman: Heroes United (Java)

Heroes United is a retro comic style game that draws attention from its graphics. The game has both iconic superheroes of DC: Superman and Batman. These two are playable turn by turn and are needed to complete the game. Superman flies and handles the enemies in the air while Batman handles the ground.

The battle mechanics are simple but still fun. Both the heroes have two special abilities, Batman can throw his Batarang or explosive charges at enemies where Superman has his laser eyes and icy breath. The gameplay is not fast paced but the comic-themed game will draw your attention.

Compatibility: Java

You post is very informative. I like your post Please update more.

  • Suraj says:

Batman Arkham origins isn’t in this list. Why?

    • Dilawer Soomro says:

Origins is a decent game, but it’s the lowest rated Arkham game in the series. The gameplay is a bit clunky and the game feels rushed, however, I really loved the storyline and how it all happens in just one night. We can’t put all games on the list and we had to let go of Origins in order to make room for other deserving games.
