A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place in 209 AC, which is 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones, which started in 298 AC. Based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, the series is set in a dragonless territory that doesn’t revolve primarily around the juggernaut characters like its predecessors. Instead, it follows Ser Duncan the Tall, who roams in Westeros as the Hedge Knight after the death of his master. Later, he is joined by a shaved-head young boy, who in the story is revealed as Aegon V Targaryen, the great-grandfather of Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.

Decades have passed since the Civil War that shook the entire kingdom concluded, but the horrors of that battle still linger in the realm. A Knight of Seven Kingdoms sees Aerys I Targaryen’s reign. He is the son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell. The HBO series is expected to introduce us to the descendants of the HOTD characters and the younger versions of those whom we met in Game of Thrones.

Once you get acquainted with Dunk, you may also recall the event of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2. Well, that’s because not only is that episode titled, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but it also features Podrick singing ‘Jenny’s Song,’ which indirectly ties to Ser Duncan the Tall. Due to his influence and a never-ending friendship with the Hedge Knight, Aegon V Targaryen names his son Duncan. So, when the Targaryen prince abdicates the throne for Jenny of Oldstones, a lowborn woman, the song was written as a mournful ballad depicting the tragic love story. However, it still is a song indirectly connected to Ser Duncan.
