Game of Thrones garnered a massive fan base with its thrilling narrative, powerful characters, and exceptional cast choices. Following the concluding season, the audience was treated to House of the Dragon in 2022. It introduced us to the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen and showcased the lineage’s dragon-riding legacy. Now, the GOT universe is all set to expand with several spinoff projects in the pipeline. If you’re curious, this post will inform you about every upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff that is nearing its release or is in the early stages of production.
1. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Based on George R.R Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will serve as a prequel series to the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones. Taking place 90 years before the events of GOT, the six-episode series follows the lowborn knight Ser Dunkan (Dunk) and his squire Aegon V Targaryen, nicknamed Egg. The source material doesn’t feature massive battles or dragon clashes, so get ready to witness some character-driven drama. Additionally, expect the familiar houses, including Targaryen, Lannister, Baratheon, and more, to introduce their new members.
2. House of the Dragon Season 3 and 4

House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal announced Season 3 and 4 within one day of the second season’s finale episode’s release. The second season teased the brutal events of Dance of Dragons, but it failed to show the significant elements. So, fans are highly anticipating the succeeding chapters as they will finally be able to witness the heightened action sequences of the Targaryen civil war. Without spoiling the plot, HOTD’s third season will set the stage for the brutal confrontations that would lead to the climactic endgame in HoD Season 4.
3. Ten Thousand Ships

This is a prequel spinoff of Game of Thrones that takes us 1000 years back in time and introduces us to Princess Nymeria. She was initially the princess of the Rhoynar, but after the Valaryians took possession of Rhoyne, she helped her people find a new home in Dorne, where she met Lord Mors Martell and married him. Ten Thousand Ships is the working title of the spinoff project, the first script of which began sometime in 2021. However, it was scrapped in 2022 because the creators found it unappealing. Martin again took it to his blog in 2024, revealing that it was back in development with a new script.
4. Aegon’s Conquest

This is a prequel Game of Thrones series that takes place 300 years before the events of GOT. Exclusively reported by Variety, a news report on a potential spinoff called Aegon’s Conquest surfaced. However, nothing made sense until The Batman II Writer Mattson Tomlin got attached to the project. The spinoff follows Aegon, the first Targaryen King, and his two sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, as they strain every nerve to invade all six of the Seven Kingdoms and bring them under their rule. Aegon’s Conquest is going to be an epic, mystic saga that will feature intense dragon-fueled duels, intriguing family politics, and everything that GOT fans expect from it.
5. Nine Voyages/The Sea Snake

Now, here’s an animated GOT spinoff that is on the cards. Known as The Sea Snake or Nine Voyages, the project is in the early development stage. For the unacquainted, initially this was planned as a live-action thing, but considering the budget, the creators decided to make it an animated spinoff. It follows Corlys, the prominent leader of House Velaryon, during his prime. He appeared as one of the crucial characters in House of the Dragon, so it would be intriguing to see how the man rose to power, how he created such a great reputation, and became the wealthiest man in Westeros. The spinoff will also explore his encounters with some deadly rivals, including the sea monsters. So, it makes sense why the creators chose an animation format over a live-action one.
6. The Golden Empire
This one’s another animated spinoff in the expansive Game of Thrones universe. The Golden Empire sheds light on the ancient civilization in the far east of Essos and showcases the Golden Empire of Yi Ti. The series roughly takes place 1000 years before Game of Thrones and will revolve around the Yi Ti’s emperors and wandering scholars of the Imperial court.
