Toji Fushiguro is one of the supporting characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen, who appears in the manga during the Hidden Inventory Arc. Toji was born as a member of the Zenin clan. But he went on to renounce the Zenin clan and adopted his wife’s surname, hence, the name Toji Fushiguro. Next, he went on to became a mercenary in the Jujutsu society and earned the title Sorcerer Killer as he started gaining popularity as an infamous bounty hunter.

Toji’s Personality
Toji Fuhisguro is an exemplary character who is known for his composure and confident personality. He is extremely self-confident, hence, he stays nonchalant throughout the story, just like today’s Gojo.
His past heavily influenced his actions and his life, which made him develop a cold personality that he shows to the outer world. Thus, you can consider Toji to be a guy who wouldn’t sweat under any circumstance and always try to emerge victorious at the end.
How Is Megumi Fushiguro Related to Toji in JJK?
Toji married an unknown woman with the surname “Fushiguro,” and they had a son together named Megumi. As mentioned earlier, Toji left the prestigious Zenin clan and renounced their name. He then adopted his wife’s “Fushiguro” name.
Likewise, Megumi also adopted his mother’s name instead of going with the Zenin. Thus, Toji is the father of Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen. They didn’t have a great father-son relationship, which is proven later in the manga, as Megumi didn’t even recognize his father. Furthermore, for those unaware, Toji married a second woman, becoming a step-father to Tsumiki in JJK.
Fun Fact: It was mentioned by the creator Gege Akutami that Megumi’s mother helped Toji become his normal self after his abominable past. But after her sudden demise, Toji spiralled and went back to his old ways; an unbalanced personality just like how he was before he met her.
Toji’s Tragic Backstory in Jujutsu Kaisen
Toji was born in the elite Zenin clan. For those who don’t know, Zenin is one of the top three clans in this Jujutsu society. As a result, the Zenin clan always valued cursed techniques more than anything else in the world.
Since Toji was born as a non-sorcerer, meaning he had zero cursed energy, he was completely shunned by the clan and hated by most. This hatred even went to the lengths of clan members abusing Toji in his early days. The Zenin family locked him up in a pit of cursed spirits for disciplinary actions, which is where he got his signature scar on his lips.
Due to the ostracization by his own family members, Toji decided to leave the Zenin clan and started to loathe this immoral Jujutsu society. In the manga, author Gege Akutami mentioned that Toji became unstable due to his clan’s and the Jujutsu world’s ill treatment.

Toji might not have been gifted in terms of cursed energy and sorcerer powers. But his inborn physical capabilities far exceed anyone else in the world. Let’s take a look at all of Toji Fushiguro’s powers and abilities:
Heavenly Restriction
For those who don’t know what is Heavenly Restriction in Jujutsu Kaisen, I will try to explain it to you in a simple manner. It is a cursed restriction/binding cast on a newborn’s (sorcerer’s) body. So basically what it does is, it gifts the user with innate abilities in exchange for something the user possesses.
For example, in the case of Toji, it completely drained out his cursed energy to zero level in return of a superhuman body. It can be vice versa too, as we have seen mechamaru get a frail body in return for massive amounts of cursed energy. This is how Toji got a heavenly-restricted body, which made him who he is today.
Intelligence
Toji is by far one of the most brilliant geniuses we have ever seen in Jujutsu Kaisen. Being born as a non-sorcerer in a world full of Jujutsu sorcerers, he went on to be recognized as one of the strongest characters. Thanks to his incredible physical prowess and genius, he was able to achieve impossible feats.
Despite being in an unfavorable position at times, Toji always devised ingenious plans in his fights against sorcerers. With his profound understanding of the Jujutsu world, Toji was careful to account for everything that he might face in battle. His extreme tactical brilliance, coupled with his gifted physical abilities, made him an incredible warrior. A notable demonstration of this will be shown in JJK Season 2, where Toji will overcome Gojo’s limitless technique with his genius-level plan.

Toji is a special case as the cursed restriction entirely ripped off a person’s cursed energy, according to Yuki Tsukumo. Although this is a serious flaw, Toji took advantage of it by remaining fully undetectable, making him invisible to other users.

Cursed Spirit
Before we learn about his weapons, you must know about his cursed spirit. Toji is always shown with a worm-like cursed spirit, which is known as Inventory Curse. As the name suggests, it acts like a portable inventory for him. He can store all of his weapons inside it, thus, the worm-like curse proves extremely handy in fights. This cursed spirit can turn into a small ball that Toji then swallows to keep it hidden from sorcerers, leaving no trace of cursed energy.
Fun Fact: It is mentioned in the manga that Toji diligently raised his inventory curse like a pet. That is how he was able to forge a friendly bond with it.
Cursed Tools
As shown in the Gojo Past Arc, Toji Fushiguro has a diverse set of weapons in his arsenal. These include:
- Inverted Spear of Heaven: A special-grade cursed tool that, when it comes into touch with the target, may totally negate cursed techniques.
- Split Soul Katana: A cursed blade capable of slicing through anything. More so than any other weapon, Toji routinely utilized this tool.

To be honest, Toji Fushiguro is a morally grey character, which basically means his character is totally ambiguous. So it’s up to the fans to decide if he is good or evil in your eyes. For me, he is a good character ruined by the Jujutsu society due to his lack of cursed energy.
Even though Toji forgot his son’s name and even sold him to the Zenin family, he loved Megumi more than anything. The love for his son is unquestionable, and he was experiencing difficulties in expressing that. And well, this is what makes many people say he wasn’t a good father.
Toji has a worm-like cursed spirit known as Inventory Curse around his neck at all times. He uses the spirit’s body as a storage to hide weapons, objects, etc., basically anything he needs. Whenever he wants to sneak past sorcerors undetected, the worm turns into a tiny ball that Toji can swallow to hide any trace of cursed energy.
Yes! Toji has already managed to beat Gojo once successfully. But when Gojo realized his weakness and awakened his true potential, Toji lost against him. But still, without any cursed energy, this monster was able to defeat both Gojo and Geto Suguru.
