I Gave The Finals a Second Chance and It’s Still as Annoying

In Short
  • As a regular FPS player, I gave The Finals a second chance and it made me quit the game again.
  • The main reason behind it is the annoying factor that the Light class can overpower other classes by going completely invisible.
  • The Finals has been struggling with concurrent players for a long time and I think this class disparity is keeping the casuals away from the game.

As an FPS nerd, I always look for something fresh to sweat for hours or simply have fun. When The Finals initially launched, I thought it might be a game where I could spend a lot of time with my friends. And truth be told I left with great first impressions. Be it the concept or mechanics, it felt attractive and fun. Well, that was until the unfair advantage of classes came into play.

I am speaking of none other than the invisibility spamming Light class in The Finals. Let’s talk about my frustration, shall we?

Unbalanced Classes Are Still The Same

While the performance issues are somewhat fixed, that was not the key reason behind me leaving. When I first played The Finals, the game was new. So, it was understandable how the Heavy class was destroying every lobby. It soon got fixed because in ranks it was more noticeable.

However, my main concern was the Light class. Especially, the pesky invisible ones. Yes, I did make some strategies to deal with invisible players in The Finals. Well, sometimes that used to work. But, we all can agree that full invisibility in a FPS game is a crime. While there were detection tools, they were also nerfed. That only means a pesky little invisibility user could sit and bide their time for the next victim.

This takes me to my recent experience and why I think The Finals is still annoying. After three seasons, I thought the game might have changed. Well, it has but for other classes. Lights on the other hand are still broken, again, thanks to The Finals devs’ love for invisibility.

They still get to use undistinguishable invisibility and high-damage melee weapons. Be it throwing knives, the infamous katana, or the stun gun. This intense combination leads to an overabundance of annoyance. In short: whenever you least expect, an invisible player will arrive and kill you.

Although it might not affect regulars, new players entering the space will get annoyed pretty quickly. This adds in that the game never got a solid concurrent player base yet. While the other Light classes are still bearable, giving someone the power to completely vanish in front of you feels wild. Especially, in FPS games where you must know where to aim. Solution?

Other FPS Games Acknowledge Issues Quicker

When it comes to a solution, there could be many. But let us look at other FPS games. Apex Legends had a hitbox issue with heavier characters so they stopped making legends with bigger collision sizes. Respawn avoided making bigger characters like Gibraltar after the launch of Vantage.

Valorant on the other hand nerfed Viper, Jett, or Chamber when they were feeling overpowered. They also constantly look at the players affecting each kind of lobbies. Whether it is ranks or just casual, fairground is a must for FPS gameplay. These games, despite knowing community backlash, reacted as per all types of player base and not just professional players.

Unfortunately, if the developers keep ignoring how broken invisibility is and why it’s not ideal for an FPS game, the community will have nowhere to go. Although I agree a seasoned veteran can identify these pesky rats easily, a casual player will have a hard time. This means that players who join the game to enjoy it will get bored fast.

Well, I hope The Finals’ developers find a solution to make the game enjoyable for all types of players. It can help them retain gamers and bring more casuals as well. I believe the game still has potential but still lacks on the part of bringing in more gamers who just want to enjoy games than sweat in it.
