- The Superman trailer brings us a lot of new villains.
- We get to have the first look at villains like Ultraman, The Engineer, The Hammer of Boravia, and Solaris.
- Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025.
Superman is set to release in theaters in less than two months, and the anticipation among fans is at an all-time high after the release of a brand new trailer for the upcoming movie. The thing that has taken my interest is the number of bad guys this movie features. It seems as if several plotlines will go on at once in Superman as these new villains come into play gradually. So, considering the massive number of bad guys we have at hand, let’s take a look at all the Superman movie villains we have seen so far in the trailers and teasers.
1. Lex Luthor

Since Superman came into being, he has been threatened by one man to who is none other than Lex Luthor. While being a menace in the comics, Luthor is a genius who has made it his life’s mission to take down Superman and in a few storylines, has even managed to do so.
In the upcoming Superman movie, Lex Luthor is being played by Nicholas Hoult, and in all honesty, I think he will be quite good as Lex Luthor in the DCU. Talking about Lex, I believe that Hoult has some pretty big shoes to live up to the legacy of actors like Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Michael Rosenbaum. Looking at the recently released trailer, it seems that somehow, Lex manages to capture Superman, and we will have to wait for the movie to release to find out how he does so.
2. Hammer of Boravia

With the new clips for Superman, a new villain has come to light, and even for DC fanatics, it’s far from being a familiar face. In the latest clips, we see a heavily armored villain going toe to toe with Superman, who is confirmed to be called The Hammer of Boravia. Now, before you go looking for him in the pages of DC comics, let me tell you that you will not find him anywhere in the vast database of DC comics. The Hammer of Boravia is an original character created by James Gunn for Superman. This is rather strange since there is no shortage of villains in DC comics who can be pitched against the superhero.
I assume that the Hammer of Boravia is a soldier in a suit of armor who is going after Superman after he stepped into the war referred to in the trailer. Maybe he is after him because he intervened in the matters of a foreign country but nothing can be said as of now with certainty.
3. Ultraman

Another character making his debut in Superman is Ultraman. Now, we make this assumption based on the “U” symbol on his chest, but if we look at DC comics, Ultraman came from an alternate dimension called Earth-3, where Superman and the Justice League, as we know them, are evil.
However, in the case of Superman, this version of Ultraman could be a clone of Superman created by Lex Luthor, who operates as a bodyguard for Lex Luthor, created solely to fight against Superman. Whatever the case may be, we will find out the whole truth as soon as Superman is released in the theaters.
4. The Engineer

Another much-anticipated character set to appear in Superman is The Engineer. This is the first time this character will be appearing in live action, so it indeed is pretty exciting. In Superman, it seems that she will be working with Lex Luthor against Superman, the reason for which is still unknown to us.
Talking about her powers, she replaced all her blood with liquid nanites, which gave her the ability to control anything electrical. Other than that, she can also use the nanites to manifest weapons out of her body, which we have already seen in the trailer for Superman.
5. Maxwell Lord

Even though he was not in the trailer, this character deserves a mention in this list of Superman (2025) villains. Sean Gunn is set to appear in Superman as Maxwell Lord. Now, one might argue that by the looks of it, Lord seems to be a good guy in Superman, since there is clear evidence of him sponsoring heroes like Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific.
If we look at DC comics, yes, he did do all of that and even helped in the formation of Justice League International, but eventually turned into a major villain against Wonder Woman and the Justice League. So, there is a good chance that we might get to see this arc eventually.
6. Eve Teschmacher

Eve Teschmacher is not exactly a villain but more like a partner in crime. She appears in DC comics as an assistant to Lex Luthor. Now she won’t be getting a mention in this article if she were just an assistant, but there’s more to her character.
Talking about Eve, even though for the most part she was Lex’s assistant but she also shares an on-and-off romantic relationship with Lex, which we might get to see in the movie, but by the looks of it, I believe that she is going to have more of a comic relief role in addition to being the romantic interest of the Superman villain.
7. A Kaiju

When Superman was announced, I did expect a massive detail of villains to go toe-to-toe against Superman, but I did not expect Superman to fight a Kaiju. Now, for Cinematic Universe fans, this might come as an inspiration from anime, but in truth, Superman has fought Kaiju-like creatures in DC Comics as well.
Now, we are not aware of the circumstances that led to this fight sequence but it might turn out to be the reason for which Superman was seen facing hate from the people of Metropolis. So let’s see what happens.
8. Solaris

Looking at the trailer, the first reference that comes to mind when we see this huge eyeball-like creature floating in the background is of Solaris, the Tyrant Sun.
In DC Comics, Solaris turned out to be one of the most formidable villains Superman stood against because simply because he was so huge that he covered Earth’s sun, taking away Superman’s source of power. Now we are not certain if this is indeed Solaris, so we will have to wait for a confirmation when the movie releases.
9. Metamorpho

Rex Mason/Metamorpho has usually been somewhat of a hero in DC Comics. Even though he despises his powers and wants to get rid of them, while he has them he uses it for good. However, looking at the trailer of Superman, it looks like Metamorpho will be seen in a negative light.
In the clip where he appears locked in a cell with Superman, we see that he’s holding Kryptonite, which enables the guards to overpower Superman. He could be doing this because Lex Luthor might have promised him that he would cure Rex and turn him into a regular human. Whether circumstantial or a proper villain, this debut of Metamorpho is highly anticipated, so let’s see where this goes.
