The first four terrifying episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 have finally arrived on Netflix. It reunited us with our favorite characters and, of course, the horrifying villain. Besides that, we get to see Holly Wheeler abducted by the Demogorgon, our heroes attacked by these creatures, and our lead lady, Eleven, relentlessly hunted by the military. With so much already happening, it doesn’t feel surprising at all when the fourth episode of Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 ended on the most heart-pounding cliffhanger, showing Will has now got powers.
Who Has the Military Been Hiding in The Upside Down Base?
While navigating The Upside Down, Eleven and Hopper get attacked by the military, but they somehow manage to hold Lt. Robert Akers captive. Hopper interrogates him, but when he refuses to tell anything, Eleven enters his mind and finds out that the military has been hiding something behind a big metal door. Hopper keeps asking Akers about it, but the lieutenant keeps saying he doesn’t know anything. Later, Eleven reveals to Hopper that the military has been hiding someone powerful like her at the base, and he believes it is Vecna.
However, in the final episode, Eleven is proven wrong when Hopper finally makes it to the other side of the door and discovers Kali, aka 008. Remember, the other test subject of Dr. Brenner, whom we met in Season 2, and Eleven called her sister?
Does Will Byers Have Powers in Stranger Things?
Will doesn’t exactly have powers in Stranger Things, but he is able to tap into Vecna’s powers using the hive mind. Basically, in the opening sequence, we see that Vecna made Will a part of the hive mind. That is why Henry was able to make Will his spy in the second season, as he could see everything through Will’s eyes by getting into his mind.
Even after the events of Season 2, Will could sense the presence of Vecna or the Upside Down monsters because he was still connected to them. And now that the barrier between Upside Down and Hawkins has weakened, Will’s connection with hive mind has grown stronger. So, he is able to see through every demogorgon’s eyes, like he’s in the monster’s mind. So, when Vecna calls Will weak and almost kills his friends, Will uses that same connection with the hive mind to take control over the monsters, just like how Vecna controls them. In simple words, Vecna, Will, and Demogorgons are part of the hive mind, so Will used that connection to tap into Vecna’s powers to protect his friends.
Well, no one was prepared to watch something like this, but yes, Stranger Things Season 5 revealed that Will has powers. From the start, Stranger Things has revolved around Eleven, even if Will was the one who was chosen by Vecna to fulfill his purpose.
Ross Duffer calls it a full circle while speaking to TUDUM. He says that, ‘it felt very natural to re-center the story on Will. He was the kid who was taken in Season 1, so it felt right for the story to come full circle.’ He also says that if someone deserves to be the one to take a toll on Vecna, it is supposed to be Will.
There was something special about Will Byers from the very beginning, but no one ever took him seriously because he used to be the calmest and composed among the other members of the Party. However, after gaining full access to the hive mind, he used it against the main villain and ambushed the Demogorgons that were about to attack his friends. So, yes, now not only Eleven but Will also has powers, and it would be really exciting to see how the final battle unfolds in the remaining episodes.
