The live-action One Piece Season 2 is finally here, and much like season 1, the new season is making big changes to the storyline. Monkey D. Portgas D. Ace Is Gold Roger’s Son in One Piece
If you are a newcomer to One Piece, it’s only natural to think that Monkey D. Luffy is the Pirate King Roger’s son. However, it is not the case as revealed earlier in the finale of live-action One Piece Season 1, where Roger’s rival, Garp, was confirmed to be Luffy’s grandfather. Then, if you are wondering who Roger’s son is, it is Portgas D. Ace, who has yet to make his debut in the One Piece live-action series, possibly in season 3.
Roger married Portgas D. Rouge, and together they had Ace. Since Ace is the only son of the Pirate King, he was born and raised in secrecy as the Marines were constantly on a hunt for him. When Roger knew his death was imminent through an execution by the Marines, he spilled the secret about his son to his rival, Garp, and asked him to take care of his son as a final favor.

Roger and Garp were not sworn enemies; instead, they were more rivals. Both acknowledged each other’s strength and honor. Thus, they had unshakeable respect for each other as well. That is the exact reason why Roger decided to handover his son, his future, to his trustworthy ally, Garp, in One Piece. If you are wondering why Roger didn’t leave his son with his crew, it is because the Marines were hunting them down as well, and probably didn’t want to endanger his son’s life this way.
The massive reveal of Roger’s son happens in the best arc of One Piece, the Marineford arc, in episode 459 (and manga chapter 551). It happens only way later, right before the time skip begins in the One Piece series, but the live-action series has made a radical change to begin teasing the reveal in the Logue Town episode itself.
The production team has already revealed the actor playing Gold Roger’s son Ace in the One Piece live-action. It is none other than Xolo Maridueña who will be playing the Fire Fist Ace in live-action. Based on the tease, we might get the complete reveal of Ace’s origins very soon in One Piece Season 3.
That said, what do you think about the live-action team’s decision to tease such a major reveal in One Piece’s history much earlier? Let us know in the comments below.
