The giants of the Elbaf nation have been complaining nonstop that Loki was a heartless and dishonourable prince since the beginning of the Elbaf arc. While the prince may have claimed that his ambition is to destroy the whole world, there was something good about that that caught the eye of our captain, Luffy. One can’t question Luffy’s character judgment, and soon we started to realize that Loki isn’t the person that the giants described him to be. When we began to witness Loki’s tragic flashback, we came to understand his true nature. Now, Oda once again shows the true nature of Loki in One Piece chapter 1167, where he fights against others for his mother’s life.

The mother characters in a One Piece flashback can’t escape their inevitable deaths in the series. Ida (Hajrudin’s mother), who should have been the rightful queen of Elbaf, fell sick all of a sudden in chapter 1167. While it seemed like a natural cause, Oda revealed the sinister act of the fellow giants who are sowing the seeds for Ida’s death in One Piece.

The relatives of Estrid (Loki’s mother) poisoned Ida to let her suffer a painful death. The reason behind their wicked act is that they didn’t like seeing a woman without royal blood become the wife of King Harald. More importantly, they wanted the inheritance of the deceased Estrid to come their way, and so they poisoned Ida.

Loki came to learn about this disgusting truth from his mother’s relatives themselves and decided to punish them with their hammer. Remember when the other giants claimed Loki was an arsonist who punished people for fun? Now we know the real reason, as we saw the truth with our eyes in One Piece chapter 1167.

Even though Loki seemed to reject Ida’s love before, Loki did care about her. In fact, Loki called Ida the only mother he had (not Estrid) in this chapter, after beating up the criminal giants. While Loki may have grown up without knowing what parental love is, Ida treated him like her own child. Deep down, Loki is not the arrogant giant he poses to be, as he deeply cared about his stepmother in the past.

Loki is already one of the best characters to be created by Oda, and the author is still impressing us with this character in the Elbaf arc. That said, is Loki ending up as one of your favorite characters in the One Piece series? Let us know in the comments below.
