The Note 10 Lets You Disable Bixby from the Power Button

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ bring a bunch of improvements over both their actual predecessor, the Note 9 and also the Galaxy S10 lineup in some ways. One of the improvements made here is the removal of the dedicated Bixby button. With the Note 10 series, the phones only have a power button and a volume rocker, with the power button doubling up as the Bixby button with a long-press by default.

While I am in favour of removing the silly Bixby button, this new set-up is counter-intuitive as well. I mean, normally, long-pressing the power button shows up options to power off or restart your phone among other things, and with the new set-up, you might find yourself making that mistake quite often and launching Bixby all the time.

So, if you dislike Bixby as much as I do, you’ll be glad to know (as I was) that you can completely disable Bixby from ever popping up just because you long-pressed on the power button. Here’s how:

  • Head over to the Settings on your brand new Note 10 or Note 10+, and tap on ‘Advanced Features.’ Here, tap on ‘Side Key‘.

  • Under the ‘Press and hold‘ setting, choose ‘Power off menu‘, and that’s it. You can now long-press the power button to get to the power off menu just like you’re probably used to getting there.

Honestly, I’m just glad that Samsung at least gave this as an option because let’s be real — no one uses Bixby, regardless of how many ads Samsung puts out showing people using Bixby to book tables at restaurants and adjust their calendar events.
