As what would come as a relief for many users, the popular OTT platform Netflix has decreased the prices of its subscription plans in India. With the new change, users can now binge-watch the best TV shows and movies on Netflix, starting at just Rs 149 per month. The move to decrease the prices is a first for the video-streaming platform ever since its foray in India back in 2016. Here’s a look at the new prices.

New Netflix Subscription Prices in India

The mobile-only Netflix plan is now priced at Rs 149 a month. It was earlier priced at Rs 199. It supports 480p video playback and can only be accessed on a smartphone or a tablet. You cannot use the base plan to watch content on a laptop or smart TV. The Basic plan is now priced at Rs 199 a month, coming down from Rs 499 (a massive 60% decrease). It also offers SD-quality content and is available on more devices, including, phones, tablets, PCs, and TVs.

As for the Netflix Standard plan in India, it is now priced at Rs 499 a month after a price cut of Rs 150. It was earlier priced at Rs 649 for a month. It provides better video quality playback (1080p) and works on phones, tablets, PCs, and TVs.

Lastly, the Premium Netflix plan is now priced at Rs 649, coming down from the previous price of Rs 749. It offers the “best” video quality, supports 4K and HDR, and can be accessed across various devices. All the revised Netflix India subscription plans come without ads and can be accessed from around the world.

The new prices are now live for users. Existing users are now getting mail from Netflix, giving them the good news of plan upgrades. Yeah, people are getting auto-upgraded to a higher plan at their existing subscription prices. When you visit Netflix the next time, you will see a pop-up to decide whether you want to get the auto-upgrade offer or not. For instance, the Premium plan is now priced at Rs 649, which was the earlier price of the Netflix Standard plan in India. This way, users are entitled to a free upgrade.

This comes as really good news for people, who always wanted to get a Netflix subscription but the high prices came in the way. Plus, it helps Netlfix have an edge over rivals like Amazon Prime Video, which has recently seen a price hike in India. For those who don’t know, Amazon Prime is now priced at Rs 1,499 per year in India, as opposed to the Rs 999 yearly price that was available previously.
