Minecraft Needs Redstone Escape Rooms to Bring Us a Cool New Challenge

In Short
  • Minecraft has a lot of structures that focus on mob challenges, but only a few where blocks pose the worst threat.
  • I would love a Redstone-oriented structure like an escape room in Minecraft, with lots of rooms that are separated by special doors.
  • The escape room could include various riddles and puzzles with levers, buttons, other redstone components, ticking bombs, and secrets.

Redstone has received some changes in the recent updates (& snapshots), and so that only means that Mojang is currently focused on improving it. While they’re at it, it would be amazing if a new structure got added to Minecraft that is oriented towards Redstone use. So, in this post, I’ll share one of my favorite new ideas on what the new Minecraft structure should be, and it is a Redstone escape room.

Minecraft Has Too Many Mob-Focused Structures

Most Minecraft structures focus on mobs, whether it’s the mobs that provide special loot or mobs that guard the loot. However, some structures have a different goal in mind as they aim to deliver a block-based challenge to players. We can see this in the case of a desert pyramid where the TNT trap poses the biggest threat and the jungle temple that includes Indiana Jones-like traps and a lever puzzle at the end.

These two structures are also pretty easy to navigate and complete but do they provide a unique experience? Trail ruins is another in-game building that has no mobs whatsoever but includes no real challenges, besides brushing suspicious gravel.

Redstone is one of the primary and standout mechanics in Minecraft, so I believe it deserves a special structure all of its own.

And I’m not talking about the ancient city that has some redstone tutorials under the main portal-like structure. I’m thinking about a decently sized structure whose goal is to challenge the player in Redstone mechanics by providing puzzles and riddles that test your knowledge, such as a Redstone escape room.

Suggestions for the Redstone Escape Room Structure

Just imagine an escape room structure in Minecraft that makes you pull levers, click buttons, solve riddles and puzzles, insert a specific item into a dropper, and much more. Wouldn’t that be so cool? This structure can perhaps occasionally be part of the abandoned mineshafts, so they’re not biome-specific.

Also, these escape rooms could consist of various rooms that are all separated by doors that require a key item, which you get by completing the room’s challenge or maybe in a random hidden chest or barrel. Maybe some of these rooms could even include a mob path-finding challenge, where you force a mob to enter a specific area by luring them.

There can be various similar ideas that can be implemented in an escape room, and with a random generation pattern, each could be slightly diverse and pose a different challenge. For example, what if another room has a ticking TNT bomb with a Redstone clock that you can only disable by quickly completing a task?

Some rooms could also encourage you to use a certain Minecraft mechanic, like a Skyblock map makes you use a cobblestone generator. Perhaps, by visiting this structure, you could learn how a number of blocks work, like an anvil, chiseled bookshelf, lodestone, and others.

On the other hand, perhaps not everything needs to be based around Redstone in particular. Maybe in some rooms, you should use your parkour skills to pass or maybe complete some sort of a maze where dispensers eject lava, so you have to hurry up.

The loot you can find in the Minecraft escape room would vary from something simple, such as food and basic resources, to higher-tier items, such as Redstone components, diamonds, and a cool Redstone armor trim, that make the trip more worth your while.

I understand that Mojang developers likely want players themselves to come up with these ideas with friends on Minecraft servers, but there is no harm if they make and introduce one themselves. Also, since this is Minecraft we’re talking about, players could simply just mine through walls and floors and break the structure completely.

In that case, I think you shouldn’t be able to place or remove blocks from the escape room. Maybe there could be some rooms that even punish mining blocks with explosions or send out a horde of Minecraft mobs.

But, perhaps the easiest way to bypass this could be to not allow players to enter the structure unless their inventory is empty, perhaps using some unique unobtainable barrier block. By exploring and completing tasks, they can find food sources to sustain themselves. This may be a long shot for Minecraft, but it would still be a pretty cool idea.

I’m imagining this structure to be completable with no fighting needed, so you can only focus on solving puzzles and gathering loot to be ready for your adventure in the Overworld. I think it would also be brilliant if Mojang allowed players to contribute their suggestions for this Redstone escape room structure so that the community can design it together.

That said, Do you think a structure like this can fit into Minecraft? Feel free to leave any ideas you have for this cool suggestion in the comments below.
