Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 didn’t leave any stone unturned to traumatize the entire anime community. However, if you believe it to be the darkest chapter of the series, you are wrong. The upcoming Culling Game arc, adapted in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, will show you what the real darkness looks like. With its gripping storyline and dramatic battle royale setup, the new season will shift the focus to Megumi, but not in the way fans had hoped.

Jujutsu Kaisen gave us several loud and flamboyant characters, but it also blessed us with Megumi Fushiguro, who won millions of hearts with his calm and stoic personality. He entered the game as the calm to a chaotic world filled with explosive characters and deadly curses. While most of the sorcerers stepped into the world of sorcery with a clear motivation, Megumi was the one who just wanted to fight evil to save innocent lives.

Sukuna was fascinated with Megumi since the very start, as he realized the young sorcerer’s true powers. Well, if you haven’t noticed, Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique came with no upper limit, meaning the user of this technique can become the most powerful entity, surpassing the level of the toughest sorcerers like Gojo.

Despite possessing so much strength and the most powerful inherited ability, the Ten Shadows Technique, Megumi often gets overshadowed by Gojo and Yuji. However, we can’t ignore the fact that he is one of the strongest Jujutsu Kaisen characters, who caught the attention of the scariest and ultimate villain, Sukuna.

In fact, Sukuna played along with Yuji only to get enough time to pay his cards right. Sukuna realized that Megumi and Yuji are close, so he knew a day would come when he would move over to another host. Sukuna could never gain full control of Yuji, but that won’t be a problem with Megumi. In a way, Megumi is his ultimate chance to regain his full potential.

Megumi has never been an easy catch, and that’s why the King of Curses waited for the perfect moment. The Culling Game arc eventually gave him that one chance when Megumi was most vulnerable. The sorcerer’s sister, Tsumiki, who is the only surviving family member he has, becomes the player of the culling games. Initially, Megumi fights for survival, but after watching his sister in the game, his protective instincts take over him and push him hard to fight for Tsumiki.

However, he soon realizes that the one who awakens from the coma isn’t Tsumiki; in fact, it is Yorozu, the powerful ancient sorcerer from the Heian era. Megumi froze for a moment after discovering the harsh reality, and that’s when Sukuna struck gold. The king of curses passes his consciousness to Megumi and takes over him entirely. Well, it was a dream come true for the villain and a shocking moment for our heroes, as no one ever thought that this day would come.

Megumi tries very hard to fight off Sukuna in his mind, but eventually, he loses control. Up til now, we have seen Sukuna using Yuji as his weapon, but that’s going to change with the Culling Game arc. Not only will Yuji lose his friend, but Sukuna will come out even stronger after taking over Megumi. It will be a heartbreaking moment for the characters, but more than that, it will make the fandom cry their hearts out, especially when they see Yuji and the other characters fighting off Megumi.
