In Short
  • In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264, Itadori Yuji summons his domain expansion for the first time in the series.

  • As Gege left Yuji's domain expansion on an ambiguous note, the fandom are heavily disappointed with it.

Domain Expansions are one of the biggest highlights in Jujutsu Kaisen and are treasured by every fan. Throughout the JJK series, we have seen a great deal of breathtaking domains, including Gojo’s Infinite Void, Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine, and several more. However, to get a glimpse of our main protagonist Yuji Itadori’s domain expansion, we had to wait until the end of the final saga. So, was it worth the wait to witness Yuji’s most-awaited Ryoiki Tenkai? I have to say no, and before you come at me with pitchforks, let me explain why.

We are well aware of how JJK’s protagonist, Itadori Yuji, was sidelined for the longest time in terms of power-ups. However, when the time came, author Gege Akutami bestowed our man of the hour with an awakening that unlocked unreal abilities such as hard-hitting Black Flashes, Reverse Cursed Technique, Blood Manipulation, and more. You can read all about Yuji’s abilities and powers in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe right here.

More importantly, Gege Akutami finally unveiled Yuji’s Domain Expansion, the one thing that the fans have been waiting for since the beginning of the manga, but it was lackluster and did not come with a name.

It’s thanks to Gojo and Kusakabe that Yuji was able to come up with his special domain expansion in JJK Chapter 264. It seemed as if Yuji was able to take Sukuna on a trip to his hometown inside his domain. As Gojo remarked, Yuji was able to substantially boost his physical stats inside the domain as well as a guaranteed CT (dismantle) hit.

Therefore, Yuji was now more sanguine with his newfound powers as he threatened to kill the King of Curses.

Sukuna reflected that Yuji’s dismantle technique was lethal earlier. Inside the domain, his innate technique was amplified to a great extent. As a result, he delivered high-octane Black Flashes and soul-splitting dismantle attacks back to back and vanquished the King of Curses to set his friend Megumi free from his control.

While it was exhilarating to watch the final battle unfold, we cannot overlook the fact that Akutami sensei never gave us an explanation for how Yuji’s domain works. In fact, the name of the domain expansion also wasn’t revealed in the manga, and fans hoped that the author would answer all the questions in the epilogue section.

The author took the time to explain the simple domain technique, but unfortunately, he left the door open for interpretations of Yuji’s domain expansion. As the manga officially ended with chapter 271, fans were extremely disappointed with the way Gege handled Yuji’s domain expansion. His domain expansion will remain a mystery for ages to come, sadly.

Domain Expansion has always been one of the main reasons why we fell in love with Jujutsu Kaisen. Be it Akutami’s fantastic art or MAPPA Studio’s wonderful adaptation, the domain expansion scenes remain close to each fan’s heart. The author wonderfully exhibited Yuta’s Domain Expansion in the final arc, but we have to agree that he didn’t do his protagonist, Yuji, justice as he left all the details of his domain unanswered.

Thus, seeing Akutami fumble such a vital power-up for protagonist Yuji dampened our spirits at the end of the manga. That said, what do you think about the author leaving out the explanation of the most-awaited power-up for Yuji? Let us know in the comments section below.
