- While talking about the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, James Gunn said that he understands that not everyone can like everything and thinks it's completely fair.
- According to Gunn, he also doesn't get why fans think there were no big reveals, while we got to see the introduction of Salvation and Checkmate.
- The reveals might be big in the future, but as of now, only Gunn knows where things are headed, which is the reason for all the criticism we get to see.
As Peacemaker Season 2 came to an end, some fans were all for it, while some of us were not happy with how things concluded. The disappointment fans felt with how things ended was not because of how the episode turned out, but because of the hype created by James Gunn around how grand this episode was going to be. So, when it did not meet the expectations of a majority of fans, the backlash was inevitable. Now, James Gunn has reacted to the criticism, and here is everything you should know about it.
What Does James Gunn Have to Say About the Criticism?

After the Peacemaker Season 2 finale premiered, fans were dissatisfied with what was served. Mostly because Gunn promised a lot of big reveals in this episode, but to the casual fans, there weren’t any to be seen.
Looking at the criticism, Gunn took to Threads and expressed that even if not everyone loves the episode, he does, and also understands why people would be critical about it. He stated-
“Not everyone can love everything. I love the episode but I understand not everyone does which is completely fair.”
Later on, Gunn expressed his discontent with how people clung to his previous comment that “Big Reveals” were a part of the season finale. While answering a fan’s question about Fleurry being Martian Manhunter, he expressed that he is not Martian Manhunter and carried on to say that he doesn’t understand why fans think there are no big reveals while the episode features Checkmate and Salvation. Gunn said-
“He’s not but I dont get that people don’t think there aren’t big reveals here, including Checkmate and Salvation.”
The thing is, these reveals are indeed big, but to get that they are, you need to be a comic book nerd. Elements like checkmate are something that are buried deep within the massive world of DC Comics, and only those who are avid readers would be aware of it.
At this point, even after this reveal, only James Gunn knows where the DCU is headed, which is not exactly something that would work in the favour of DC Studios. Now, the introduction of Salvation and Checkmate could play a significant role in future DCU projects, but as of now, the Peacemaker Season 2 finale has left a bitter taste in a lot of fans’ mouths.
