All iPad Models Compatible with iPadOS 18 Update

Apple has launched the next update for its iPads with the announcement of iPadOS 18 at WWDC 2024. This version gets all the major changes from iOS 18 and then some. These include on-device and cloud AI support, new ways to interact with Siri, a new Passwords app, Photos app redesign, and finally, a Calculator app (yep, finally). Here are all the supported devices that will get the new iPadOS 18 update.

iPadOS 18 Compatibility: Supported iPads List

Apple M-powered iPads will be able to run iPadOS 18 alongside some older models that came with the older A-series chips. However, the availability of some features may be limited on iPads backed by A-series chips.

With on-device AI functions, it’s possible Apple may restrict some features from iPads not running on an M1 chip or newer. The above list confirms that iPadOS 18 will not come to the 2018 iPad, and 2017 iPad Pro, so iPadOS 17 will be the last major update available for these models.

When Will iPadOS 18 Come Out?

With iPadOS 18 now announced, developers can install the Developer Beta right away by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > iPadOS 18 Developer Beta.

As is usually the case, regular users may also get a taste of the new iPadOS version in a few weeks (probably in July) when the Public beta releases. We can expect the stable version of iPadOS 18 to arrive in September or October for all supported devices.
