You will find regular vines in the swamp and jungle biomes, unique red weeping and blue twisting vines in the Nether dimension, as well as cave vines generating in the underground portion of the Overworld. Step 1: Find Cave Vines in Minecraft

Cave vines are the source of glow berries. So, the first step is to find them. These vines are generated in the lush cave Minecraft biome. This is an underground biome indicated by several azalea trees on the surface.

Once you locate this tree, start digging down, and eventually, you’ll reach a lush cave. The floor of these locations is covered with moss blocks and also separated by numerous pools of water, where axolotls spawn and swim.

Cave vines are attached to the ceiling and usually grow a few blocks downwards. When you locate one of these vines and are sure that no hostile mob is going to sneak up on you, it’s time to harvest the glow berries.

Step 2: Harvest Glow Berries

To harvest glow berries, you need to first find a cave vine that’s bearing them. They will look almost identical to the other cave vines but will have orange-colored glowing fruits on display. Pillar up to one of them if they’re high up.

Then, either right-click it or break it by left-clicking. Vines with glow berries will drop 1 glow berry item. If you break a cave vine with no berries, it will drop nothing. You can then repeat the process to get a few more glow berries that you’ll grow at your Minecraft house or base.

How to Grow Glow Berries in Minecraft

After you acquire glow berries from the lush caves, follow the steps below to grow them yourself in Minecraft.

• First, you will need to place a block, or multiple blocks a bit above the ground.
• Then, you can select the glow berries of your hot bar and right-click the underside of the placed blocks.
• You’ll see cave vines start to appear. You cannot obtain the “cave vine” item itself but use glow berries instead to plant them.

• Also, as you place the cave vines, you will see that they don’t have glow berries on them at first. You’ll need to wait sometime for the berries to grow. This can take a while since it depends on the random tick speed.

Moreover, glow berries grow only on newly generated cave vines. This means, if you already have a cave vine that grew from the block you attached it to all the way to the ground and still doesn’t have any berries on it, it will not grow berries at all. The vines have about a 1 in 9 chance of bearing the berries. If the entire length of the vine has no berries, you are free to just break most of it and wait until it grows a glow berry.

Cave vines can grow up to 26 blocks. This depends on the age of the vine. If you press the F3 key to open the debug screen on Minecraft Java edition, you will see in the targeted block section that the last cave vine has an age value.

If that value is 25, it won’t grow anymore. The cave vine attached to the block is assigned a random value, and every newly-grown vine’s age is one higher than the last. So, these cave vines can be very short or very long. However, even though the vine grew to be 26 blocks long, on average, it couldn’t even produce full 3 glow berries, which is not very efficient.

That’s why you should use bone meal to get a bunch of glow berries. Select the bone meal on your hot bar and right-click any cave vine. It will instantly bear the glow berries, allowing you to harvest them.

If you start spamming the right-click button, you can grow and harvest glow berries in Minecraft in a jiffy. This will require a lot of bone meal, though.
