HOTD Season 2 has been a banger since the very beginning, and with each episode, it continues to grow in popularity. The anticipated Targaryen Civil War began with the Battle at Rook’s Rest, which ended with Rhaenys and Meleys’ deaths. Aegon also received severe injuries after crash-landing on the ground. While some fans believed it was an accident, several fans were confident enough to state that it was Aemond who tried to kill him. Everything was speculative until Haelena’s words hint toward Aemond in the Season 2 finale. But, how did she know?
Halaena Had a Vision of Aemond Killing Aegon
Yes, the Targaryen Queen Haelena knows Aemond tried to kill her brother-husband Aegon. Well, she didn’t witness the entire ordeal with her own eyes, but she knew about it.
Haelena Targaryen was one such character of the universe created by George R.R. Martin, who was always sidelined because of her introverted personality. Since childhood, she was often seen either talking to insects or enjoying her own company. So, it’s obvious that no one paid attention to her prophetic abilities. She is a special character who, in HOTD Season 1, foreshadowed some major events that indeed happened later in the series.
For instance, when Aemond tells his mother Alicent that he needs to claim a dragon, Haelena predicts that he will surely get a dragon but not without losing an eye. I clearly remember what she sounded at that time. Her words were, “He’ll have to close an eye.” After that, Haelena also prophecised about the Civil War.
In HOTD Season 2 Episode 5, Haelena Targaryen approached Aemond while he was staring at the Iron Throne. She didn’t blame him or anything; she simply asked, “Was it worth the price?” The scene wasn’t stretched in that episode, so not many fans realized what was happening. However, in the finale episode, the conversation between Haelena and Aemond was enough to give us clarity.
While Haelena gazes at the kingdom from the top of the Red Keep, Aemond comes from behind to ask her to accompany him and support him in defeating Daemon and his army. Haelena then reveals that she knows how Aemond had Aegon spiral on the ground during the Battle at Rook’s Rest. When Aemond denies the accusation, Haelena says she saw it. She also says that Aegon will take over the Iron Throne again, as he has yet to see the Greens win. Haelena also states that Aemond will die.
After hearing her statements, Aemond says that he can have Haelena killed, but she still replies politely that even her death won’t change anything. Although Aemond does not say anything, Haelena’s words impact his mind, and we can see that on his face.
Is Haleana a Dreamer in the Books
In Fire & Blood, Halaena does not have much part to play as the writer hasn’t focused much on her. However, showrunners have taken a different route. Halaena is indeed shown to be a dreamer in House of the Dragon and she has visions. She knew that Aemond tried to kill Aegon and tell former that she ‘saw’ it. Moreover, she even predicts the death of Aemond.
