The GTA community has once again proved why they’re the most united in the gaming world by raising over $50k towards a terminally sick fan. The individual in question here is Jerry Fort, a longtime GTA fanatic, who is battling a serious lung condition. His only hope – live long enough to play GTA 6.
Jerry Fort’s Fundraiser Surpasses $50K as He Fights to Live Long Enough to Play GTA 6
On August 8, 2026, Jerry posted a video on TikTok about his interstitial lung disease, with the text “I just want to play GTA 6. Rockstar and their delays man…” appearing on the screen. He was in the ICU, in dire need of an urgent lung transplant, as stated by the 25-year-old sick GTA fan in the video.
“My lungs are attached to the chest wall, so doing surgery means ripping apart my lungs from my chest wall – physically ripping them – then pulling them out, then replacing them with new lungs. It’s going to be very bloody, very dangerous,” he said. Naturally, it caught the attention of the GTA community.
Before long, the video had racked up millions of views and more than 1.5 million likes, with the GTA community rallying behind Jerry. Two days ago, the sick GTA fan’s parent, Paris Fort, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the original $55,000 cost of his lung transplant.
Fast-forward to August 11, 2026, and the fundraiser has reached 95% of its newly increased $70,000 goal, thanks to the GTA 6 community. Paris wrote that Jerry “has always pushed through pain to show up for the people he loves, to create beautiful work, and to keep going with strength and heart.”
After reaching the initial goal, Jerry uploaded a new TikTok video over the weekend, where he said: “I would like to thank all of you for being patient, number one. Number two, I did not expect that much love. It’s so many people, so many messages, so many… so many good-hearted people.”
With the cost of the lung transplant covered, Jerry has confirmed that he’ll stream GTA 6 whenever it drops and that his goal as part of the GTA community is to complete the game once he has recovered.
Fortunately for Jerry and GTA fans everywhere, Rockstar is sticking to GTA 6’s November 19, 2026 release date and will showcase more of the game during the GTA 6 Extended Look presentation on Netflix on August 27.
