How Green Rain Works in Stardew Valley 1.6 (Explained)

What Is Green Rain and When Does It Occur

Green rain is a brand new one-day-long environmental event Stardew Valley 1.6. It happens only in summer. You can expect it around the middle of the season, but it can also happen before Summer 10th. There can never be two or more green rain days in one season. This event is indicated through the weather channel on TV. The screen will turn green and the weathercaster will not know what the report means.

The next morning, you will receive a notification that the green rain has descended upon the valley. The whole world will have a green tint, both inside and outside. This rain is not at all harmful. In fact, it’s fairly useful. Let’s now go over why that is.

How Does Green Rain Work in Stardew Valley 1.6

As soon as you exit your farmhouse, you will notice a change in the world right away. The green rain will create a bunch of bushes that weren’t there before. They’ll have a different appearance than normal bushes and will even take two swings with a regular scythe to take them down. Besides fiber and mixed seeds, they also yield moss and mixed flower seeds.

Moss is an item used in several crafting recipes and one cooking recipe. You may also buy broccoli seeds with it from the lovely raccoon neighbors. The mixed flower seeds are similar to mixed seeds. When you plant them, a random flower from the appropriate season will grow.

There are even massive bushes that yield a couple of moss and fiber items. Though that’s not all. You will encounter two new tree variants. One variant looks like a swamp tree with its bending branches and exotic leaves. This tree will drop wood and sap, but also mossy seeds. You may plant this seed just like other tree seeds and it will eventually grow into one of the two wild tree variants.

The other tree variant is a stalk-like tree that twists at the top. This tree doesn’t drop wood. Instead, it yields 6 fiddlehead ferns. The green rain also waters all the tilled soil and fills the pet’s water bowls.

Furthermore, you won’t be able to view the weathercast for the next day as the green rain completely disrupts the weather channel. All NPCs have something to say about this unusual event, so you can learn about its lore.

After the green rain is over, all naturally spawned wild trees and bushes will disappear and many regular trees will have moss growing on them. Not only that, but wild and regular tree seeds and saplings have a chance to reach full growth, thanks to green rain. This doesn’t apply to fruit tree saplings.
