Dragon-Type Pokemon Guide: Strength, Weakness, and Resistance Explained

Even though Dragon Pokemon are one of the many monster types in-game, they have an exciting and elusive set of strengths and weaknesses over others. Because of their unique nature, many might find using this Pokemon difficult unless they know its advantages. Dragon-Type Pokemon Strengths

Let’s first discuss the strengths of a Dragon Pokemon since, if you are reading this, you want to learn about the advantages of using one. Interestingly enough, Dragon Pokemon are unique when it comes to their strengths. The only thing they are strong against is their fellow Dragon-type. Shocker, I know.

So, if you have a Dragonite, it will be extremely strong against another one. It is a weird decision partly because that makes these Pokemon one of the low-tiers in Pokemon. However, interestingly, most legendaries like Arceus and Rayquaza also belong to this archetype. So, using a Dragon-type is a good idea if you plan on hunting a legendary for keepsakes.

Dragon-Type Pokemon Weaknesses

Weirdly, just like its strengths, Pokemon from this category has an exciting set of weaknesses. Like many previous elements, Dragon Pokemon’s weaknesses have changed two times. When the first generation games launched, a Dragon-type would be extremely weak against a fellow Dragon-type and Ice-type. These two weaknesses were constant throughout the generations until Generation Six came out.

With the arrival of Pokemon X and Y, the weaknesses list added another entry. Dragon-types were now also weak to Fairy-types. So, the final list of weaknesses includes Dragon, Ice, and Fairy. This further raises the question of whether the dragon type was built to fight fellow legendaries. Otherwise, having such weaknesses doesn’t make much sense.

Dragon-Type Pokemon Resistance

Dragon Pokemon’s resistance never had its weaknesses modified, unlike the weaknesses in the first-generation game. So, if you play the first-generation game, those still work in the latest title, too.

So the only list for dragon Pokemon resistances includes Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric Pokemon.

Best Counters for Dragon-Type Pokemon

Since this is a rather broad Pokemon type that covers various monsters across various generations, each monster in this category has some other Pokemon that counters them better. Now, across generations, I have my own preferences. Here are the best counters for Dragon-Type Pokemon:

• Articuno (Ice/Flying-type)
• Sylveon (Fairy-type)
• Rayquaza (Dragon-type)
• Salamence (Dragon/Flying-type)

So, if you can, try adding these four Pokemon to your party at their respective Pokemon games to gain the upper hand against any dragon in-game.

Best Dragon-Type Pokemon

Now, when it comes to picking the perfect Dragon monster for your team, there are many of them you can consider adding to your team. Some are extremely popular, while others are worth keeping on their team. The best Dragon-Type Pokemon are:

• Dragonite
• Garchomp
• Rayquaza
• Dialga
• Salamence

So, try to capture these Pokemon when you can. It might be a little difficult, but it will be worth it!
