5 Reasons Why Colman Domingo Might Be the Perfect Kang Replacement

In Short
  • Jonathan Majors was fired from MCU on December 18, 2023, and Marvel is now looking to cast a new actor for Kang the Conqueror.
  • There are rumors that Colman Domingo is set to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang, and we think he might be the perfect replacement.
  • Considering his previous roles as Unicron in Transformers and Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead, Domingo can make a perfect Kang.

Recently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) faced a severe blow with the accusations surrounding Jonathan Majors. The day he pleaded guilty, Marvel fired him from the role of Kang, leaving the whole upcoming Avengers franchise hanging. The upcoming Marvel movies, including Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, both these projects were supposed to have Kang as the main villain. So, the question now is, who will be the new Kang if not Majors? Rumors are floating around that Colman Domingo is being eyed for the role. While there is no official confirmation yet, we have compelling reasons why Colman Domingo will be the perfect Kang replacement.

1. Domingo’s Role as Unicron In Transformers

One of the main reasons I think he would make a perfect Kang the Conqueror is his previous work in Transformers: Rise of The Beasts. In this kind of rebooted Transformers movie, Domingo played the role of Unicron, a planet-devouring monstrosity of a Transformer.

His voice and the way he projects the darkness of the character is truly remarkable. As far as I think, if Domingo can pull off all this with just his voice; imagine him in live-action as Kang and giving the Avengers a tough time.

2. Colman Domingo Manifested the Role

In a resurfaced interview with Domingo Colman, the star expressed his interest in joining one of the cinematic universes. However, the interesting thing is he did not express his wish to be a superhero but rather a supervillain.

If Marvel is aware of this interview, it is time for them to pull off a power move and make it happen. In his interview, Colman stated,

“When it comes to Marvel and DC, I’m like, ‘I think I’m ready now, I’m worked out, fit, I think I want to play a villain. I just want to be the villain. I don’t want to be the good guy. I actually want to do some really nasty, dirty work.”

With that being said, if Marvel wishes to revive its Multiversal Saga without changing the big baddie, I don’t think anyone else would be a better fit than Colman Domingo.

3. Similar Roles in Other Projects

The representation of Kang we have seen to date is rather sinister with notes of nobility. Now, of course, the nobility he represents is more on the villainous side. If I think of another character with the same character traits, the first name that pops into my mind is Victor Strand, from Fear The Walking Dead.

Colman Domingo did an excellent job representing Strand, and as far as I think, if he can pull off a role like Strand with the complexities of being a conman transitioning between good and bad, and then ultimately turning into a villain, he can certainly make a fantastic Kang.

4. Uncanny Similarities Between Majors and Colman

If we look at Jonathan Majors and Colman Domingo, there are a lot of similarities shared by both actors. Both Colman and Majors are almost equally tall and have the same muscle build. Now I know that Majors played the role of Kang exceptionally well but now he has been fired because of, well, consequences of his own actions.

However, eradicating a whole set storyline because of an actor is not exactly the most logical thing to do, and as far as I think, Colman can make an amazing replacement for Majors.

5. Domingo’s Fame Can Bring Fandom to the MCU

Domingo has created a huge fanbase for himself playing the role of Victor Strand in Fear The Walking Dead. Casting Colman Domingo can bring back the ‘almost-dead’ hype for the Avengers franchise in the MCU by attracting the FTWD fandom.

Even though the character of Strand is that of a villain, he is still widely loved by the Walking Dead community. This is an opportunity for MCU to attract a brand new audience to itself and as far as I think, Marvel really needs that at this point.
