Battlefield 6 Leaked Footage Offers First Glimpse at Battle Royale Mode

In Short
  • Battlefield 6's long-rumored Battle Royale mode has leaked online via datamined files from the Labs playtest.
  • The leak includes a brief glimpse at the mode's opening cutscene and claims that the BR map is set in California.
  • In addition, the Battle Royale mode will supposedly feature a destructive ring made of a compound named NXC.

Battlefield 6 is in active development, with Dice regularly collecting player feedback through the Battlefield Labs playtest program. The closed alpha test is known to feature different maps, game modes, and even the franchise’s trademark destruction mechanics, all of which have found their way online through leaked footage. The latest leak to emerge via the playtest is linked to a long-rumored Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6.

Known Battlefield dataminer @temporyal on X was the source behind the leak. Their recent X post included a seven-second clip of the BR’s intro cutscene, accompanied by some key details. While the clip itself has been taken down by EA, it displayed a swarm of helicopters crowding the airspace over a battlefield – pun intended.

The leaked cutscene was extremely Warzone-coded, but that’s hardly a surprise considering both franchises utilize a mil-sim aesthetic. While that sums up the contents of the cutscene, the leaker added that the Battle Royale map is set in California, where players drop in via a CH-47 Chinook aircraft. Furthermore, the map is surrounded by a destructive ring made of a compound named ‘NXC,’ which will likely narrow down the combat zone throughout the duration of a match.

Back in May, the dataminer shared other details on Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale mode, including custom weapon drops (akin to Warzone loadouts), vehicle containers locked behind keycard requirements, and priority missions that offer valuable rewards but can also be hijacked by enemy players. The mode will reportedly be free-to-play, giving it a fighting chance against genre juggernauts such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Warzone, among others.

The leak coincided with reports of EA’s lofty ambitions for Battlefield 6. The publisher is said to have established a 100 million player goal (during a specific time frame) for the upcoming title, meaning a lot is riding on the popularity of the Battle Royale mode. For context, Battlefield 2042 amassed just 22 million players during that period, while the fan-favorite Battlefield 1 garnered around 30 million.

With all that said, what are your hopes and expectations for Battlefield 6? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
