Alan Wake 2 Preload Guide: Time, Size, and How to Download

While 2023 has been a great year for video games, more titles are on the horizon to end the year on a good note, Alan Wake 2 being one of them. The sequel to the cult-classic action horror title by Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake 2, has been awaited by gamers for years now. The game plans on continuing the story of the horror writer and kickstarting the Remedy Shared Universe. With the game launch nearing the finish lines, Remedy has shared news about preload. After all, the game is pretty large in size, and not everyone has a fast internet connection. So, if you’re someone who can’t wait enough and wants Alan Wake 2 on your platform now, check out our pre-load guide below and begin downloading.

Alan Wake 2 Preload Date and Time

Alan Wake 2 preload times

Remedy Entertainment has shared the essential details around the Alan Wake 2 preload through an official X post (formerly Twitter). The preload is exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles.

As of writing this article, the pre-load for Alan Wake 2 is live. You can start downloading the game from the respective console storefronts immediately and prepare it for the launch. One thing that might confuse some players is the omission of preload for PC players. Unfortunately, PC won’t receive a preload period for Alan Wake 2. The reason might be its Epic Games Store exclusivity. The platform has previously never offered preloading titles. Furthermore, the store doesn’t support video game preloads, which is why PC players have to wait until Alan Wake 2 launches on October 27, 2023.

Alan Wake 2 Game Install Size

Unlike Starfield, where the game installation size wasn’t officially confirmed, and influencers revealed the same, Remedy has disclosed the installation size for the game. Unfortunately, it follows the current trend of games being bigger. The installation sizes for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5: 85GB
  • Xbox Series X/S: 82GB

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S install sizes are smaller than the EGS launch. The PC version of Alan Wake 2 clocks at around 86GB. One thing that we are not sure about is whether this is the final launch size for the game, including the day-one patch. However, since Alan Wake 2 is a digital-only title, we expect this size to include the day one patch.

How to Preload Alan Wake 2 Right Now

To preload the title on either of the consoles, you have to pre-order the title from the respective storefronts. The game costs $59.99 on both Xbox and PlayStation and $49.99 for PC. Once you have purchased it, follow the steps.
