The telecom sector in India has seen a price war of epic proportions since the entry of Reliance Jio, which offered users heavily discounted data and calling plans. In order to keep up with the competition, other major telecom operators have introduced their own subsidized tariff plans to directly counter those offered by Jio.

Most recently, India’s largest telecom service provider Airtel introduced a new Rs 49 prepaid recharge voucher which offers users 3GB of data with a validity of one day. This is an excellent option for those who want a short burst of data for a day but don’t want a high-value plan.

According to a recent report from NDTV, the new Rs. 49 prepaid recharge is available in select circles and may also offer 1GB of 4G data for some users. In order to avail the benefits of the new tariff plan, users can log in to the My Airtel app or on Airtel’s website and enter their mobile number to check if the plan is available in their circle.

Airtel’s new Rs. 49 plan directly counters Jio’s which has the same price but offers 1GB of 4G data for a period of 28 days for JioPhone users. Once the data limit is exhausted, the internet speed is reduced to a measly 64kbps. However, unlike Airtel’s offering, Jio’s Rs. 49 plan also includes unlimited local, STD and roaming voice calls. The plan also offers complimentary subscription of Jio’s suite of entertainment apps, including Jio TV, Jio Music, and Jio Money, among others. Over and above all that, Jio’s plan also includes 50 free text messages.
