Eiichiro Oda has kept his audience wondering not just how his magnum opus story will end, but also when his epic tale will reach its end for decades. Even readers who don’t follow the OP series are interested in knowing when the One Piece manga will sail to its end. Since the origin of the manga, creator Eiichiro Oda, has commented about the One Piece series’ lifespan over the years. We haven’t heard anything from Oda in the past couple of years, but here we have analyzed the One Piece series length and come up with a solution. Keep reading to find out when the One Piece manga could end.
Is One Piece Manga Ending?

One Piece is about the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, who aims to discover the legendary treasure and become the next Pirate King. The manga has been in serialization since 1997, which makes it a nearly 28-year-old series. Even after decades spanning over 11 arcs and 1150+ chapters, the One Piece manga is still going strong, as you can see the series topping the manga sales charts every year.
The One Piece manga finally entered its final phase in 2022, with the author announcing the Egghead arc as the first arc in the final saga. The Egghead arc concluded recently, and the Straw Hats have headed to the most-awaited destination, Elbaf, giants’ homeland. The Elbaf arc is progressing steadily with the arrival of Loki, God’s Knights, Shanks’ twin, etc.
Longtime readers of the One Piece manga know there is a long way to go before we reach the end of the series. We still have three more arcs to explore, likely the Lodestar Island, Laugh Tale, and the Final War. So if you are worrying that One Piece manga will end in 2025, you don’t have to anymore. One Piece manga won’t end in 2025, at least.
No tale goes on forever. Even the greatest stories must conclude to complete the picture it has been painting meticulously all these years. With the final saga commencing in the story, we are now in the final years of the One Piece series. Having said that, let’s discuss how the manga will continue from now on.
How Long Will One Piece Manga Continue?

Would you believe me if I said that Oda initially planned to wrap up One Piece within five years since its start? In the next interview in 2002, he stated that it would take twenty years to finish his series, but that didn’t happen either. Throughout the years, Oda has repeatedly shared his predictions about the lifespan of One Piece, with the most recent one in 2022. In an interview with Gosho Aoyama (author of the Detective Conan series), Oda wished he could end his series in just 3 years, in 2025.
But here we are, nearly halfway through 2025, and the sight of the finish line still seems far away. But as we know, Oda’s tale easily slips away from his hands and is guided by the will of the characters he created. That is how the One Piece story keeps expanding beyond its scope, and the creator has also emphasized this in his interviews. So, it is worth noting that Oda’s predictions have always been a mixed bag from the start.
However, the author has been consistent in assessing the percentage of the story completed. Oda confirmed to his editor Suguru Sugita that One Piece reached the halfway mark, i.e., 50%, with the pre-time skip era. Oda continued to give updates about the percentage of the story with the latest one at the beginning of the Wano arc. He stated that One Piece has reached 80% with the Wano arc.
You can find all of Oda’s words about the lifespan of One Piece in the library of Ohara, courtesy of Artur. We haven’t got any updates since then, but we can estimate that One Piece currently sits at 85-90% with the completion of the Egghead arc. There is only 10-15% of the story possibly left in One Piece.
How Many Years Does One Piece Have Left?

While only 10-15% of the story is left may seem like a tiny feat at first, but we are talking about One Piece here. Oda has been carefully building his world and characters for nearly three decades, along with weaving the mysteries. Therefore, it might take a bit more time to resolve all the storylines and unravel the unanswered mysteries, such as Void Century, Joy Boy, One Piece treasure, etc.
Thus, I believe One Piece still has over 200-250 chapters remaining on the table, bringing the series to the 1350-1400 chapter mark in total. At the time of writing, we are currently reaching the milestone of 1156 chapters. The number of One Piece chapters per year has been declining since 2019 due to the health issues of Oda and other unforeseen breaks.
Recently, he has also been involved in overseeing the production of the One Piece Live-Action show, which has kept the author busy as well. That is why we are getting a lower amount of chapters every year, and the progress keeps getting delayed by miscellaneous reasons. Since 2020, we have been getting an average of 30-35 chapters every year.
So even if we only get 30 chapters in the upcoming years, it would take at least 7 years for Oda to complete the story. The minimum count is 5 years, and the maximum is 7 years. With this timeline, we can expect the One Piece manga to end in the early 2030s at the moment.
But do keep in mind that lately Oda’s progress has been getting only delayed and not the other way around. Unfortunately, if the author’s health worsens or other commitments keep him busy, then the One Piece manga will move at an even slower pace.
Lots of popular content creators in the One Piece community, such as Mr. Morj, also estimated that One Piece could end by 2032. Greg, one of the manga translators and advisors of the OPLA show, who has also met Oda personally, declared that One Piece will take up to 4-7 years to finish its story in his podcast.
While I’m worried that One Piece is ending, I want Oda to take his time to deliver the ending to the greatest adventure story of our time. That said, let us know your ideas about when the One Piece manga will end in the comments below.
