In Short
  • In the trailer of Supergirl, the city under the dome is Argo, not Kandor.
  • Based on the Woman of Tomorrow comic book, Supergirl's father saved the city when Krypton was being destroyed, and this was where Kara grew up.
  • Supergirl releases on June 26, 2026.

From Superman being a beacon of hope, we have made a massive jump to the other side of the coin, where Supergirl brings in pure chaos and swag to the newly rebooted DCU. The newly released trailer for Supergirl (2026) might just be one of the most anticipated clips from DC, and now that it is out, theories and details are running rampant on the internet. However, there is one instance in the trailer that has raised a lot of eyebrows across the globe. The clip shows us a scene where a city is covered by an energy dome protecting it, while everything else around it is getting destroyed. While there are some interesting and compelling theories floating around the topic, let’s find out what is actually happening with Krypton in Supergirl’s trailer.

Supergirl Will Give Us the First Look at DCU’s Krypton

The first trailer of Supergirl, as I mentioned above, gives us a look at Krypton, Superman’s home planet, and the fate it eventually met. In the lore of DC, Krypton was destroyed due to multiple factors, and the only survivors were from the House of El. We have seen various adaptations of Krypton throughout time, and talking about the DCU, we have only seen Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s parents, but this time around, we will get to see what Krypton was like in the DCU, which in itself is pretty exciting.

DC Comics Explain What’s Happening to Krypton in the Supergirl Trailer

When the visual of a dome surrounding a city first came up in the trailer, multiple people thought that this could be the point where we get introduced to Brainiac. In DC comics, he “Stole” the city of Kandor from Krypton, which, visually, would look somewhat the same. Even though it would be incredibly cool, this is not what’s happening here.

It has been confirmed that Supergirl is an adaptation of a DC comic titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and in that comic, it has been explained that Kara’s father,  Zor-El, came up with a protective energy shield around Argo City, where Kara’s family lived. When the rest of Krypton was destroyed, Argo City survived along with the Kryptonians who managed to make it there.

Even though the protective shield provided living conditions and atmosphere, things started to go bad, and as Kara was growing up, she witnessed almost everyone she knew and cared about die in front of her. When the last of Argo City was on the brink of destruction, her father, Zor-El, created a ship using the same design Jor-El used to send Superman to Earth to keep Kara safe.

So, the scene we witness in the trailer is not Brainiac taking Kandor, but instead, Argo City being saved by Zor-El. So far in live-action, we have not witnessed a detailed origin story of Supergirl, so it would be interesting to see it finally happen as the movie releases on June 26, 2026.
