Forget Tokyo Revengers! Here Are 5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Wind Breaker Instead

Tokyo Revengers took fans on an exhilarating journey with its delinquent trope, but the anime lost its charm over time. I was immensely disappointed with its run, yearning for another series in the delinquent genre. Ken Wakui (author of Tokyo Revengers) did return with another manga like its predecessor, Astro Royale, but I wanted to watch an action-packed delinquent anime. That is when CloverWork Studios dropped a new gem — Wind Breaker.

Having watched this anime since its debut a few weeks ago, I’m quite impressed by it. So, if you are missing Tokyo Revengers and want something better, here are five reasons to start watching Wind Breaker right now!

5. Ensemble of Renowned Voice Actors

Characters in Wind Breaker were masterfully brought to life by a multitude of well-known Japanese voice actors. The anime has a star-studded cast who deliver powerful punches. These include:

  • Yuuichi Nakamura – known for Gojo Satoru in JJK, Houtarou Oreki in Hyouka, etc.
  • Yuuma Uchida – known for Kyou Souma in Fruits Basket, Megumi Fushiguro in JJK, etc.
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki – known for Shanks in One Piece, Shinichi Izumi in Parasyte: Maxim, etc.
  • Kouki Uchiyama – known for Mereum in HxH, Kei Tsukishima in Haikyu, and Miyamura in Horimiya, among others
  • Ryouta Suzuki – known for Yuu Ishigami in Kaguya Sama, Ryuusui Nanami in Dr. Stone, etc.
  • Ikumi Hasegawa – known for Ubel in Sousou no Frieren, Vladilena Milizé in 86, etc.

Wait, there are more! This is more than enough reason to get started with Wind Breaker. All of our favorite voice actors in one place; that’s a treat for sure!

4. Generic Storyline with Engrossing Backstories

From the outside, this anime would appear as just another delinquent anime with the same generic storyline. However, as the episodes progressed, and with the introduction of several new interesting characters and moving backstories, this all-new delinquent story will grow on you just like it did for me. For an action anime, it has a heart to it and will captivate you throughout its run.

What fascinated me the most is undoubtedly the story of the main character Haruka Sakura who finally experiences the goodwill he deserves in life. Like I said earlier, all the backstories and main story weaved together would appeal better and hook you in easily.

3. Compelling Characters To Look Out For

One of the best things about Wind Breaker is its amusing cast of characters. As you might be aware, in a delinquent-themed anime like this, the intriguing gangs and their members are what make the series shine. So, the characterization has been meticulously handled to create a variety of main and supporting actors who will continue to entertain you for seasons to come.

For example, we have a Gojo-esque guy voiced by the legendary VA of Gojo Satoru himself. He is regarded as the strongest character in this realm similar to how Gojo was the strongest being in his respective universe. This is just one example, and I have already talked about how this story’s main character was well-handled too.

I assure you that you will start rooting for these characters from day one and will find characters to loathe aplenty in the enemy gang.

2. Amazing Fights with Extraordinary Action

The core of delinquent-themed anime like this one is its action sequences. At the time of writing this, seven Wind Breaker episodes have aired and several battles have already taken place. As the 1 vs 1 battles are ongoing, it is an absolute satisfaction to see the remarkable fights that are extremely well-choreographed.

You get to see different kinds of fighting styles being implemented with each character rather than all of them just throwing boring punches against each other. Therefore, if you need to get a taste of cool action sequences, just start watching Wind Breaker already.

1. Remarkable Animation Cranks Up the Intensity

Alright, the first aspect I noticed that completely blew me away was the surreal animation quality by CloverWork Studios. Kudos to the team, they have undoubtedly brought the best out of this manga while amplifying to its maximum potential to entice the fans. The characters look so vibrant and the action scenes look majestic and sleek all over.

Wind Breaker is easily one of the best anime adaptations of this year and one of the best ongoing anime in spring 2024 so far. As of now, the first half of the series has got me hooked (& will reel you in too). Based on the first half of the series, it is evident this anime is promising and will grow only further in quality.

So, if you are looking for a solid action-packed anime similar to the Tokyo Revengers, you should be looking to binge-watch Wind Breaker instead of Kaiju No. 8 as soon as possible. Moreover, I believe Wind Breaker even has the potential to shatter Tokyo Revenger’s records.

That said, do share your thoughts about the Wind Breaker anime as soon as you are done catching up to the latest episode in the comments below.
