Geography puzzles can get surprisingly confusing when it comes to recognizing countries. One game might accept a place as a nation, while another might not. So, when I started playing Globle, one of my first questions was: exactly what countries does the game consider valid? If you’re wondering the same thing, I’ve put together a complete list of countries in the Globle country guessing game.
How Many Countries Are in the Globle Game?
Currently, Globle includes around 197 countries in its pool. This includes 193 United Nations-recognized sovereign states, along with Vatican City, Kosovo, Palestine, and Taiwan.
- Total countries in Globle: 197
- Country list: 193 UN member states + Vatican City, Kosovo, Palestine, and Taiwan
- Countries not accepted: Territories and dependencies
- Alternate names: Some previous names and abbreviations, such as Burma and UAE, are also accepted
- Border disputes: Geography can be sensitive, so disputed borders may not match every map or source.
You don’t need to get into the politics surrounding each of these places to play Globle. For the game, the important thing to know is that they are included as valid countries on the list. The game uses the Sporcle countries framework to determine what counts as a valid country.
So, if you’re trying to memorize every possible answer, you’re looking at 197 countries. And yes, that means some of those tiny countries you’ve probably forgotten about since geography class can come back to haunt your daily streak. North American Countries in Globle

| North American Countries | Capital |
|---|---|
| Antigua and Barbuda | Saint John’s |

South American Countries in Globle
South America has just 12 countries, but don’t let the smaller list fool you. Once Globle starts throwing you into the northern part of the continent, countries such as Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela can make things surprisingly tricky.
| South American Countries | Capital |
|---|---|
| Argentina | Buenos Aires |
| Bolivia | Sucre |
| Brazil | Brasilia |
| Chile | Santiago |
| Colombia | Bogota |
| Ecuador | Quito |
| Guyana | Georgetown |
| Paraguay | Asuncion |
| Peru | Lima |
| Suriname | Paramaribo |
| Uruguay | Montevideo |
| Venezuela | Caracas |
Oceania Countries in Globle
Oceania is where things can get particularly challenging. Many of these countries are tiny Pacific island nations, and knowing roughly where they are isn’t always enough when you’re trying to find them on a 3D globe.
| Oceania Countries | Capital |
|---|---|
| Australia | Canberra |
| Fiji | Suva |
| Kiribati | South Tarawa |
| Marshall Islands | Majuro |
| Micronesia | Palikir |
| Nauru | Yaren |
| New Zealand | Wellington |
| Palau | Ngerulmud |
| Papua New Guinea | Port Moresby |
| Samoa | Apia |
| Solomon Islands | Honiara |
| Tonga | Nuku’alofa |
| Tuvalu | Funafuti |
| Vanuatu | Port Vila |
Quick Note: You don’t always have to type a country’s current name exactly as it appears in our lists. Globle accepts some alternative spellings and previous names. For example, Burma is accepted for Myanmar. The game also accepts acronyms for some multi-word countries, such as UAE for United Arab Emirates.
So, if you know where a country is but can’t quite remember the exact name, don’t panic. Your guess may still work in Globle.
Countries Not Recognised on Globle
Now this is where things get more interesting. Globle doesn’t treat every territory or geographical region that appears on the globe as a separate country. The country list Globle uses leaves out many territories and dependencies.
For example, Greenland can appear in a neutral color when you guess its sovereign country, Denmark, but Greenland itself isn’t treated as a separate country in the game. Smaller territories, such as Curaçao, also don’t appear as independent countries either.
This means, the Globle country list can look different from lists that include overseas territories, dependencies, or other autonomous regions. The game needs a consistent list for deciding which places count as countries, and not every political or geographical entity makes the cut.
Tips to Learn All Globle Countries to Win the Game
Knowing that Globle has 197 possible countries is one thing, but actually remembering all of them is a completely different challenge. It’s difficult but not unachievable. You don’t have to memorize the entire world map in one sitting. Here are a few ways to make it much easier.
Learn Countries by Region
Don’t try to memorize countries in alphabetical order. Start with one region at a time. Learn the countries of South America, then Central America and the Caribbean, then move on to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
This gives you a mental map instead of a random collection of country names. And when Globle gives you a warm guess, you’ll have a much better idea of which countries could be nearby.
Start with the Big Countries
Learn the locations of the large and easy-to-spot countries first. Russia, China, India, Brazil, Canada, the United States, Australia, Algeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are great anchors.
You don’t need to know every tiny country immediately. If you can quickly place major countries, you’ll have a much easier time narrowing down the mystery country.
Focus on Tricky Groups of Neighbors
Some parts of the world are much easier to confuse than others. Spend extra time learning clusters such as the Balkans, Central America, Southeast Asia, West Africa, and Central Asia.
For example, knowing that Laos sits between Thailand and Vietnam is much more useful during Globle than simply remembering that Laos exists.
Follow the Heat While You Learn
This is probably the most useful way to combine playing Globle with learning geography. When a guess turns warm, look at the countries around it instead of immediately throwing out another random name.
If Brazil is hot, for example, look at its neighbors and learn where Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela sit around it. Your guesses become little geography lessons.
Leave the Tiny Countries for Later
Don’t start by trying to memorize every Pacific island nation and European microstate. Get the larger countries and major regions into your head first.
Once your mental map is stronger, add countries such as Nauru, Tuvalu, San Marino, Liechtenstein, and Palau. These countries can be painful guesses in Globle, but they’re much easier to learn once you already understand the surrounding geography.
Globle includes 197 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. This includes the 193 UN sovereign states, small island nations and microstates, along with Vatican City, Kosovo, Palestine, and Taiwan.
Globle accepts some alternate and previous country names. For example, Burma is accepted for Myanmar, Ivory Coast is accepted for Côte d’Ivoire, and more.
Globle accepts acronyms for some multi-word countries. For example, you can enter UAE for United Arab Emirates. However, not every possible abbreviation will necessarily work, so using the country’s full name is the safest option.
