In Short
  • Fortnite's latest mode Delulu will finally bring Proximity Chat to BR.
  • UEFN already has Proximity Chat for creators to use.
  • Delulu will release in Fortnite on September 19.

Fortnite’s voice chat feature has traditionally been a two-edged sword, encouraging community while also increasing toxicity. Players commonly describe aggressive interactions, including trash talking and using insulting language, especially in competitive lobbies.

Despite Epic’s efforts to address this issue with AI-driven moderation, mature language filters, and reporting mechanisms, concerns persist about the game’s young player base being exposed to inappropriate behavior. Recent improvements to text chat have exacerbated these issues, with unfiltered global and party chats raising concerns about greater abuse.

Now, trusted leakers recently confirmed files indicating that Proximity Chat is set to debut in a new Battle Royale mode called Delulu, with an optional toggle to enable or disable it. Here’s when you can expect it.

Fortnite Proximity Chat is Coming to a New Battle Royale Mode This Week

After tremendous success in UEFN, Proximity Chat seems to be making its way in Fortnite soon. Fortnite Leakers have now confirmed that the feature is making its way to a new BR mode called Fortnite Delulu on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Here’s the official description of the game mode: “It’s a limited-time, weekends-only mode where betrayal will make or break the #1 spot! Start solo and squad up with friends, or forge new alliances on the fly with proximity voice chat. To queue for Delulu, head to the Compete Tab and be sure your Voice Chat settings are set to ‘Everybody’.”

Delulu will be available to creators in Early Access a day earlier on September 18, but will be rolled out for everyone on Friday, September 19 within Fortnite.

If you’re unaware, the v30.40 update brought Proximity Chat to Fortnite’s UEFN mode, which allows players to hear adjacent teammates and opponents in real time. It has proven popular for its strategic depth and chaotic enjoyment, reminiscent of viral moments in games such as Warzone. However, it has also sparked concerns about rising toxicity, as unmoderated voice chats may intensify negative exchanges.
