After what felt like weeks of waiting during the break, One Piece chapter 1158 aired this weekend, taking the fans through an adventurous trip in the Rocks era. Fans have been waiting to step into the God Valley during this flashback, but we are slowly reaching the historical island with One Piece chapter 1158. If you have been waiting to know more about Roger, Rocks, and more, here is a quick summary of the events that transpired in One Piece chapter 1158.

Shakky’s Love Letter to Rayleigh

Shakky‘s impact is never leaving the story as chapter 1158 opens with Roger and Rayleigh talking about the love letter left behind by Shakky. Since Shakky revealed that Rayleigh can come over to Hachinosu and take her hand in marriage, the crew sails to the pirate island with Captain Roger’s approval.

As we moved to Hachinosu, another surprise awaited us as Rocks D. Xebec was no longer enchanted by Shakky. The reason behind this change is the fact that Rocks met the woman of his life (Blackbeard’s mother). During the ongoing friendly quarrel, the Roger Pirates defeated all the pirates waiting in line and entered Shakky’s bar.

While we expected Roger and Rocks to be bitter enemies, the two came off as sworn rivals. Fortunately, they did not engage in a battle as fighting is strictly forbidden inside Shakky’s bar. A delighted Shakky enquired of Roger about the whereabouts of Rayleigh, but the first-mate decided to sleep on the ship while his crew were partying in Shakky’s bar. Though things between Roger and Rocks seemed fun here, the narrator emphasized that their meeting at the sea would play out differently from their encounter in the bar.

Garling’s Unexpected Discovery in God Valley

In a turn of events, we get to see a young Figarland Garling‘s meeting with the Five Elders at Mary Geoise 40 years ago in the story. Though the native hunting competition just ended, Garling is seen itching for another round. Moreover, Garling talked about an important discovery he made in God Valley while working on another assignment for the World Government.

Garling emphasized that this island holds something special that will delight Imu beyond measure. Therefore, he requested the elders to conduct the next Native Hunting Competition at God Valley. Now this has the fandom curious, as this discovery might be related to Uranus, an Ancient Weapon we have yet to see in the story.

Rocks Vs. King Harald: A Clash of Titans

We swiftly move to the time when Rocks once again visited his friend King Harald in Elbaf. This time, it is not the same friendly discussion anymore as the two titans engaged in a fierce clash while arguing about the World Government. Rocks was undoubtedly the strongest in the era, yet King Harald was no lesser man as he fought toe-to-toe with him.

Rocks was absolutely right about the Celestial Dragons, as the World Government only aims to take advantage of the strength of the giants instead of accepting them. However, Harald is hellbent on people’s perspective on giants and uniting the nations. Therefore, this battle eventually led to the breaking of their friendship bond. The two agreed not to see each other anymore; however, the narrator hints that fate will bring them together once again during the God Valley Incident.

Birth of Shanks and Shamrock

Next up, we move to the timeline we have been dying to see in the story, i.e., 39 years ago, a year ago, the God Valley incident. When Shanks was revealed to be the twin son of Garling, everyone assumed he had a mother who was a celestial dragon. We do not need to follow those assumptions anymore, as Oda hints that Shanks and Shamrock‘s mother is an inhabitant of the God Valley.

Shanks’ mother (shown in silhouette) must have been a popular figure in the God Valley island, as the residents hoped that her twins would grow up to be great characters like their mother. The final panel of One Piece chapter 1158 also confirmed that it was Shanks’ mother who named her twins as Shanks and Shamrock, while fans thought Roger named one twin Shanks and Garling named the other Shamrock.

The wait for the complete God Valley flashback is almost over, as there is only one more year to go to watch the most infamous incident in history. Oda has wonderfully set up the foundation for the God Valley incident by properly introducing all the important characters who played a big part in the incident.
